They are playing country music during warm ups. Apparently we have to make Alabama feel welcome. I've spotted two fans so far that made the trek up.

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

Tech, Ferris, Lake State, and Mankato all win.

Thoughts:
1. Tech is now in 4th and would pull past BG into 3rd with a win. Even with UAH being a better Saturday team, Larose will be in net, and he may not be as strong as he can be given that he played some tonight.
2. Lake needs to keep winning to stay out of ninth (and my predictions say that they do, obviously). Northern needs points, too, although they have nine more games to get them. Northern's schedule is a little easier, but if one team can come out of their matchup next week with a sweep, they're pretty much in. Yes, I have Northern making a run into a home series, but that is up in the air. But Northern could really stand to pick up a point on Saturday night against Ferris.
3. Mankato won pretty decisively over Bemidji (YAY!). Sweeping would give them an outside chance at the #1 seed. I can't speak for the PWR comparisons and whether running the table gets the Mavs into at-large territory.

I'm mainly happy that Bemidji lost. I want them to finish #9. If UAH can only pull off one more win, I want it to be in Bemidji. We need one at home — haven't won here all year, and I don't want to go winless two of three years — but dang, knocking the Beavers out would be really, sweet.

What are they when allowing 10?

(sorry couldn't resist)

0-2-0! ;)

Pro tip for the Tech faithful: don't make the visiting team stay out there through the post-game ceremony. Carny is very, very important to y'all and mostly irrelevant to the visitors.

Except when the visitors win, which has happened more often than not in the past 20 years. C'mon, you get a trophy named after a legendary coach! Why wouldn't you stick around?

However we're working on fixing that. ;)

Hope you get that next win at home this season!

Well if BSU is going to get swept, I can take solace in the fact UAH gave up 10!!! :p

Someone should have let them know before the game that they ought to stay out. However they were tapping the sticks on the ice at the appropriate times during the Blue Key guys speech ( I coached him in soccer 10 years ago... felt a bit old there), when they talked about MacInnes' record and most importantly when they mentioned his student athlete graduation rate.

And like it was said. It isn't always us hoisting a trophy and getting to be embarrassed by kissing/not kissing the queen. The talk in the car back home was whether or not the queen was actually a cousin of Blake's. And perhaps that why he avoided it :D

Laurila didn't take care of that?

I didn't see any of the post-game (I was too busy crying into my recap, and I don't know that they showed it anyway), but I'm going to guess that Lauro told them about what was happening. Corbs and Morgee probably saw it, too, when they were skating for DU — and if not, they knew about it. To quote Corbs, "And after we go to Alaska, we go to Tech for Winter Carnival, where they're something like 150-5-1 in the last 40 years." I love that guy.

Not much changed with the model: http://uahhockey.com/blog/2014/02/09/2014-wcha-playoff-race-week-21/

The only things that are going to change the model appreciably are 1) sweeps and 2) any Ferris State losses. Ferris is back to #5 in KRACH, and it has the Bulldogs lined up to win-and-tie in each of their remaining series. If you can beat the Bulldogs even once, you help your chances (duh, points), and you could change the model to a split (unlikely unless they lose at least twice).

Alaska still has to be stressing over the fact that the three teams below them in the standings all get series with UAH to close out the year. With two points bracketing 6th and 9th, that hurts. The Nanooks will be playing for their season against the Bulldogs and Seawolves (especially the Bulldogs).

Re: The New WCHA IV (2013-14): Unlocked and Cocked

One thing about this years WCHA, everyone is so close. there is no one, well except huntsville, that doesn't totally deserve to be in the playoffs. It'll be tough for whoever it is that misses out..

random observation 1, Mankato has a killer power play. !
Random observation 2: the BGSU @ UAA series will be tough.
