In Mankato, the community has embraced the new coach and the fact that this team has some real talent. It's also a fairly big social event to head to the Verizon Center on a Friday or Saturday night. It's been a very good transition, outside of an atrocious road record, for the Mavericks. I was flat out wrong when I thought the nWCHA would drop attendance here. The community has bought into the hockey program, and is coming to watch the Mavs and not the Sioux, Gophs, etc.
With the new commitment to the program with the hiring of Hastings and the rink renovation, Minnesota State has positioned itself well to become a WCHA power and one of the league's "big" teams.
Time will tell if this trend continues, but year one has been a success for the Mavs.
