Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

So the on campus arenas do not. Does the NMU Blue Line Club have a side room with alcohol?
Well, At Tech there is beer there, they just don't let the common folk drink it. It is only in the luxury suites, which are actually pretty nice.

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Yes, beer and mixed drinks at Mankato, off-campus, city-owned civic center arena.

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Your arena has what appears to be a nice Club Level.

Yeah, it is pretty nice. The only thing they should have done differently is make the seating a little steeper, but the same could be said about the seating in the whole arena.

The beer and mixed drinks are available arena wide, not just in the Club and Suite Level.

Bowling Green has beer in the Falcon Club Lounge which, unfortunately, is in another part of the building away from the action so we can drink before the games and between periods. Interestingly, they sell beer at the football games. I'm not sure whether that will eventually spread to the other sports or not.

Are there locations in the facility where it could be sold? Do those areas have room for 20-40% increased traffic? How would age verification be done? Who will staff that? The volume of people at a hockey game is sadly lower, so you can spread that cost over a larger number of transactions. We had a similar setup for alcohol until five or six years ago, and we're in a city arena (in the Bible Belt, though).

Yes, there are locations that could handle it with little problem, I believe. The basketball arena is new and has a Falcon Club area with a view of the action. That is currently the only place they sell beer there and it will likely stay that way as an enticement to join Falcon Club. There is an area in the ice arena that, with some major renovations, could be converted to a Falcon Club area if they want to go that route. It would cost a bit of $$$ though.

Okay, I know I haven't purchased the B2 Feed in a few years. (Okay, it's been a really long time, I searched my e-mail for the digital receipt and it was 2009).

But... Jesus Christ have prices jumped!

The league was definitely caught flat-footed. It's a shame that the dominos have fallen as they have.

Would be interesting if the member schools could pull off something without FOX or America One...Seems that Fairbanks has a public TV and radio station on campus with plenty of technology. Sounds like Bemidji with HD too..Couldn't one of those or one the other eight schools, again with the technology, serve as the "headquarters" to get out all the games and the league and schools make the $$$$...

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Absolutely GFM. It's very sad to see the league caught by this, but it seems they had bought all into FoxSportsGo without admitting it (even saying that nothing was in place, it was just "exploratory.")

If FoxSports is still pursuing this, I cannot see any of the WCHA schools spending the money needed to invest in streaming capacity especially if it's going to be replaced next year. An ideal backup setup would be a WCHA run site hosted by FoxSports to transition into their mobile/streaming product when it's ready.

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

If the Northern Sun (northernsun.org) can pull this off for all D-II sports, then the WCHA should be talking with them. It was pretty nice this past weekend, since it was raining, being able to watch all the NSIC Football games through their FREE video feeds. Some are better than others, but something is better then nothing, and you can't beat FREE.

Heck, I was even able to go back and watch BSU's comeback win over Winona State last week for free through their On Demand Archives........

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

This is an instance where I can't really fault the league. I will give them credit for doing the work and having a deal ready to go in the first place. It was probably the best deal they could get considering the size of the target audience, so going all-in with Fox made sense compared to any alternatives. In the end, FoxSports is mostly to blame for trying to rush their mobile service to market without proper testing and debugging first.

Re: The New WCHA 3, Revenge of the Sieve (2013-14)

Does anyone know if USCHO has a beat writer for the WCHA as of yet. Maybe they ought to have two. One for East and one for west. At any rate they need a reporter.

The position is not listed on the Jobs @ USCHO page, but that might be out of date.

Historically, I think they hire someone from one of the local papers on a part-time basis.
