The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

I'm guessing that he wasn't very confident that he'd be eligible.

On paper, another team's early departure might make my team look stronger by comparison. But I feel for BGSU or any team that has to deal with a late change of plans like these. Now you're either going to be playing farther down your depth chart next season or hope that one of your kids yet to arrive on campus can still change their plans for this season and make the team.

In other news, I think the WCHA should declare itself the "Power One" conference of college hockey and create some new rules which state all the other D-I conferences need to subsidize the WCHA teams to cover our travel costs. Power Five running the NCAA = Inmates running the asylum.

Once they start paying their football and basketball players (and effectively destroy the non-"Power" conferences in those sports), there will be an outcry on the campuses of BC, MN, ND, etc., that fairness requires they pay athletes in the non-revenue sports. And then the death spiral starts.

To be clear, the BGSU coaches really never thought that Freibergs would be back and recruited accordingly. The NCAA would've likely followed the lead of the IOC after the appeals process which has been taking way too long. I don't really blame him for leaving because the odds were stacked against him. FWIW, BGSU did request and receive samples of the tested blood and did their own independent test which came back negative. Ralphs maintains his innocence. I tend to believe him.

As for Perrier, that was more of a mutual parting of the ways. He was likely not going to see a lot of ice time with the D-men we have coming in this year.

This is practically word-for-word what I was about to post.

Good to see a commissioner being proactive instead of simply reactive.

:thumbs up: This is fantastic news to read. Sure there are always moving parts that could change, but this does seem refreshing to have the commissioner say that the league is stable as it currently is, and that they're looking to expand.

Well, we would have the marked cornered on states with names beginning and ending in A.

Arizona State??

Yeah, if there is any truth to that, I don't want to hear another word about how poor the WCHA is or how strained budgets are due to travel... ever.
However it should stated that nowhere in the article are Robertson and Arizona State connected. It's almost like two articles were spliced together - one talking about WCHA expansion and another talking about how ASU wants to go D-I.
