The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

And if the Nacho does successfully poach those programs, I think the true motive of the Nacho will be glaringly apparent, namely, it's not about the Monopoly money found in the third-tier TV deal, it's about not traveling to Alaska and the UP.

The Nacho teams are avoiding the UP and Alaska?

It's possible, but my guess is a lot of 2-for1's would be involved. And I don't think you'd ever see a Big 10 school make a mid or late season trip to AK.
They come to the tourney's ... no need or expectation for them to come any other time. My intent is to maximize the benefits that they already get for the benefit of the other WCHA teams. Heck, if UAA and UA_ agreed to pay all of a B!G's expenses to come to the tourneys then that might be some incentive for the B!G schools to reciprocate with a scheduling agreement for the rest of the WCHA.

UAA and UA_ may have to pony up more bucks to benefit the schools in the league that are financially challenged.

NMU has UMD and Western on future schedules and had UNO & NDakota this year. But you won't see a return trip from UND. And it's unlikely you'll see Miami, Denver or CC on the upcoming schedules. As far as Big Ten schools, the usual offer is 2 for 1 with no money to the school traveling twice.

Let me explain this simply: If BSU and MSU go to the Nacho, the Nacho becomes the old WCHA less Tech, UAA, and Bruce McLeod. What does that tell you?

Starting to sound like the CCHA is coming back to life just under a different brand the WCHA.

I can see the NCHC poaching the Minnesota schools it only makes sense to them.

We were anything but in the CCHA. August 11, 2009 will always sting.

As someone with no real knowledge of the situation, I can say with confidence that I believe the CCHA was keeping that last spot for Penn State just in case. It still sucked for UAH though.

If the nWCHA wants to raise it's perceived "status" then the new commish might consider going hard at the B!G in an effort to reach a scheduling agreement with them.

This has to be done for the WCHA to even stay afloat for years to come as the league will rely heavily on the Big as the Nacho teams won't even considering going to WCHA venues that much.

It's no secret the lower 48 schools would prefer to see the Alaskas split up. It's simply a fact. I'm fine with both in the same conference. No different than Michigan Tech & NMU or Bemidji and UMD should be. But if the conferences do more realigning that would separate the schools, what leverage do the Alaska schools really have to leverage in an attempt to stay together? It's not a dig on these two outstanding college hockey schools and their fanbases which are outstanding. It is however, a question that may have to be pondered as the next ripples of realignment flow. Now I'll dive for the foxhole and wait to get excoriated by the inimitable fanblogger for even daring to pose the question.

I hope you are running for the Commish because you have my vote.

Have you applied?

Oh, I know why it happened, and I don't fault anyone for it. It just threw us into a four-year hell that we're only barely getting out of now.
