The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Based on this, with everyone moving up in the standings, teams should be finishing anywhere between -2nd and 7th in the conference since even last year's top three teams will be moving up as well. I am really looking forward to this historic year because to the best of my knowledge, no one has EVER finished higher than 1st in the WCHA.

I believe the top 3 teams move up to the AHL, so yes, it's possible every team moves up a spot or two.

All joking aside... promotion / relegation is an awesome system I wish we had...
It's not. It seems great in theory but all it really does is solidifies the teams with money and everybody else one bad year away from bankruptcy and oblivion.

Sure for the top few, but the guys on the bottom actually have to fight for something besides being the worst. Makes the top and the bottom matter. If you're that bad year after year... perhaps you deserve it?

Year after year? sure, but the bad part about it is you cant take the time to develop talent, at the risk of being relegated.

relegation would never work over here, but teams dropped to the championship from the premier league hardly go into bankruptcy or oblivion.

Bottom three teams from the WCHA get relegated to the NCHC, yeah! oh but then we'd have to take three NCHC teams, forget it.

If it had existed the last 20 years, I think Tech would be playing the California Penal League coached by Rick Vaughn by now.

So it is settled - As part of a four-year pilot program, each season the Atlantic Hockey regular season champion will be granted membership in the WCHA the following year. The WCHA 10th place finisher of that season will be relegated to the NCHC the following year. I realize that's a tough pill for the 10th place WCHA team to swallow, but adding the 10th place WCHA team to the NCHC makes the NCHC a better conference, and that's good for college hockey in general.

Dropping a yearly trip to Alaska would be okay by me. ;)

GFM <— sure that the NCHC folks would howl about having to play in Alabama

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

From what I've read so far on various team threads, every team in the WCHA will be moving up in the standings this year due to "best incoming class ever", "underclassmen are ready to step up", "our power play and penalty kill are vastly improved", "we didn't lose any key players", "we have another year under our belt", "new coaching staff", "the ship is now headed in the right direction", "we have a new zamboni", "fan base is really fired up to support the team", "The Bauer Jackhawk 9000 sticks our team will be using has a lower kick point on the shaft resulting in a shot with 10% more energy off the blade", etc, etc.

Based on this, with everyone moving up in the standings, teams should be finishing anywhere between -2nd and 7th in the conference since even last year's top three teams will be moving up as well. Reminds me of Lake Wobegon "where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."

We love you too.

Hey, I'm happy to be in a league with you. I'm hoping to make the trip the year we play both schools on consecutive weekends. Also, you have Lance West, whom I know reasonably well and really like.

You won't regret it! One of the best hockey trips I've taken (besides not winning at UAA of course....) Just don't be too loud in Fairbanks. They have delicate ears...

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

Does anyone have any news regarding the availability of a full season pass with America One for 2014-15? I've tried the site several times and unless I'm clicking the wrong link, I don't see anyway to purchase a full season at this time. Given that the season it 13 days away, you would think they would have something up by now.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

It's been silent. The only thing available is the $8 a pop single games.

*edit* I did ask the WCHA on Twitter; hopefully something gets announced soon. Hate for the NCHC to steal their thunder.

And if you take the financial risk to try to move up, and miss, you are permanently *ed. And if you don't take the risk, the best you can hope for is to finish 10th.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

I found the press release from last season, and the package wasn't announced until one week prior to the season starting. Since it's been confirmed they're with America One for one more year (at least), I'm kind of surprised that they're waiting this long to make the announcement and/or offer the season packages.

Re: The New WCHA, 2014 Offseason: See-ya, Bruce

I would like to think that the new Commish is in negotiations with America One to either provide a better package or a more competitive price point. Hopefully this is why we haven't heard anything yet.
