The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Congrats to Omaha and North Dakota! Hockey East vs. NCHC in the Frozen Four...should be a great weekend of hockey down in Boston.

Also, with Omaha's victory, the NCHC knocked off a team from EVERY conference. Throw in that 5/8 Regional Finalists were from the conference, and no doubt that the NCHC was the dominant conference in college hockey this year.

Atlantic Hockey: RIT (Omaha) - Check
ECAC: Quinnipiac (North Dakota) and Harvard (Omaha) - Check
Hockey East: Boston College (Denver) - Check
WCHA: Michigan Tech (St. Cloud) - Check
B1G: Minnesota (Duluth) - Check
NCHC: St. Cloud (North Dakota) - Check

First time in history that ONE conference has knocked out a member of each of the other six...:p:D:D

The thing is... Your 2 survivors did not play a Hockey East team. The atmosphere should be great in Boston. Just tell the North Dakota fans not to be insulted when the Boston Irish denizens tell them they are 3 weeks late with their crazy green outfits.

Butt Hurt.

I assume you mean Butt Hurt at how terrible it's gone for that conference? Their delusions of grandeur have not come to fruition.

Boston isn't far, but Providence still has to walk further than across the street this time.

Yes, it's terrible when a low seed gets to host in their building. Oh wait, it wasn't their building. It was an arena where they hadn't played for 10 years. It's amusing that fans out west are the most disappointed by this. Maybe someone from UMTC who explained that playing in St Paul is totally not a home ice advantage for the Gophers can cover this.

I doubt you have heard anyone outside of the Minnesota fanbase support the ridiculous coddling of the gophers during the wcha final five at the X or the home ice regionals they have been handed at Mariucci or 10 miles away in St. Paul. What is amusing is you cant just call it for what it was, a favorable draw for Providence that seemed unsupportable given viable, defensible alternatives.

They are both very much examples of home ice advantage... Did you think most western fans didn't acknowledge this?

Have you read my comments in the Pairwise thread? This was very much a favorable draw. As the #15 seed Providence should have gone to Fargo. I would have switched the Providence and South Bend regionals so there would have been a "local" team in South Bend. This bracket was put together by people (primarily the committee chair - who happens to be from the University of North Dakota) determined to get the regionals back on-campus. Considering the abysmal turnout (no, Compton wasn't 80% full which was "official" attendance) in South Bend and this being the 3rd-worst attended regional (even counting the unused but officially sold tickets), the howling about Miami having to play a "road" game at Providence and the fact the NCAA was on the hook for 10 flights it seems that mission was accomplished. I expect the next round of regionals that are announced will be back on campus, with a caveat that arenas with small rinks have to find an alternative. The NCAA will accommodate ESPN somehow (make them only broadcast games involving "name" schools) and they'll figure out a format. If they went back to the 1988-91 format (best 2/3 at higher seed) would have produced (at most) only nine flights and almost every game would have been like Fargo and none would have been like South Bend. The ticket revenue would have been staggering.

At least the Big Ten has made one appearance in the last two national championship games. That's one more than the NCHC has.

The Big Ten got one team in the tournament this year and that team got outplayed worse than any other team. If your argument is that the Big Ten hasnt been a crap conference because the Gophers made the championship game last year, good luck convincing other people of that.

After some people pointed it out to me on Twitter...UNO could really struggle. They lost a lot from last years team. They do have a great freshmen class but it's tough to win like that.

Yup, we only made it to the National Semi-final.

:D:p

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

You have a very talented team but WAY too much of that talent is underclassmen. Despite being picked 8th in last year's preseason poll, I thought UNO would contend for the last home-ice spot. This year after losing Archibald, Walters, Megna, Seeler, Montpetit, Young, Searfoss and Raubenheimer, and still no answer in between the pipes, I wouldn't be surprised if they finished dead last.

I see that you might have nodded off before finishing the last sentence of this post last October, which I am sure was meant to read:

Will the NCHC HQ hang participation banners for their 6 teams that made the tournament yet failed to advance to the championship game?

Only if the Big 10 puts up a banner anointing themselves the AHC of the West.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Michigan State have more combined national championships than any other conference. The Big Ten had one bad season, that is all. Hope you haters enjoyed that while it lasted, because it will be the premier conference in the nation more seasons than not.

Right now they've got one title appearance to NCHC's zero and they're both tied at zero. Last year wasn't very good either and it's clear that the conference's big talk before the last couple years isn't going to be as great as once thought. They've got an uphill climb, not many players want to be play in some of their lackluster buildings and programs. I believe you're a gopher fan so you're probably not enjoying playing teams you don't care about. Have fun with 4 pm games at OSU.
