The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Ten years from now when most of the schools in the WCHA have lost their hockey programs we won't get to hear this envious whining anymore... too bad I say.

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

You say the NCHC is elitist as if that's a bad thing.

Bowling Green AD: "Hey, if you guys are looking to add any teams to that conference of yours, we would like to throw our hat into the ring.."
Josh Fenton: "You guys haven't won anything since the Reagan administration and your attendance numbers are pitiful."
Bowling Green AD: "ELITIST!!!!!"

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

ah, I've nothing against Duluth. I like you guys. wish you had stayed. ****ed new arena and national championship!!

Re: The NCHC Year Two: Haters Please Form A Queue to the Right

Josh Fenton: "You guys haven't won anything since the Reagan administration

and yet, the NCHC signs up Western and Miami State, two teams that haven't won anything EVER.
so what was that all about, desperation to get more than 6 teams? must be, if ya'll are willing to travel to oxford every year. ;)

now if you'll excuse me, time to celebrate BGSU's impressive home victory over the Indiana Hoosiers!

I don't decline the work, just refuse to wait in line to do it.
I hate you and your entire greedy, elitist, holier-than-thou conference.
I hope you all gag on your own puke, and that you, personally, get sentenced to 40 hours of community service to be served covering up all of Ralph's abusive logos with duct tape.

When did bbdl get a new user name?

Miami State? If you are referring to Miami, they went to back to back Frozen Fours, one of them they got to the championship game. Also won 3 conference championships.

Western Michigan has only won one CCHA conference tournament, which was in 2012. Sadly, that still is enough to give them more trophies than BGSU has since the Reagan administration.

of course I'm referring to the school in oxford that likes to imagine that they're not really a state school. but I'll grant you this: they do have a couple of things that the rest of the MAC doesn't. yep, delusion and pretension.

one conference tournament, and that's good enough for the NCHC to spread its legs? so much for "standards", eh? ouch.

Yet with as easy as the NCHC is to enter, your prospects are still nil. Man, that's gotta hurt!

If you could stop posting, that'd be great.

Trust me when I say that Miami and WMU are second guessing their decision to join. The exorbitant cost of travel has hardly been offset by playing teams that nobody outside of hockey knows anything about. Attendance at home games has been anything but stellar. In a few years when the CCHA reforms (and it will) don't be surprised if those two say C-Ya! to the NCHC.

I don't hate the NCHC but I won't feel the least bit sorry for you when your league comes crashing down because it is unsustainable.

They set up the NCHC exactly how they wanted it: it's the WCHA minus the B1G and the perrenial leeches (in their eyes) Houghton and Anchorage.

Losing Wisco and Minny was going to cause a dip in attendance at the Final Five anyway, so those teams trimmed the "excess" and got what they wanted.

What bothers some people most is how the schools went about it is under the guise of "like-mindedness." We all saw behind the facade, and yet the NCHC founding schools repeated their mantra enough that they believed it themselves.

*edit* I will say that there needed to be conference changes and shuffling. I don't think it was approached properly, but if this leads to continued sustainability and growth of the sport instead of the trend of contraction, then even as much of an obvious money grab as the NCHC was, it was a move in the right direction.

It's rough being a Kato fan. First we get left out of the NCHC, and now we get left off the list of leeches! Where's the love?

:D Don't worry. When Miami and Western become the Chuck Cunningham's of the NCHC, you guys and Bemidji can take over. Wait, that makes it more like the Vivian Banks of the NCHC.

Being trolled by a BG fan (which is novel enough)? But, pass the popcorn and revel in the irony that Miami alums are leading your program!

In short, no. What happened in 2013-14 did not pave the way for more teams to add D-I hockey, unless you happen to be a Bi6 institution. Let's be honest, the NCHC isn't going to take an expansion program based on how this conference was formed. The other conferences are "full" with an even number of teams (WCHA=10, ECAC=12, HE=12). So unless you happen to have a second team joining with you, or you want to join Atlantic Hockey (currently 11 with the departure of U-Conn) you're screwed. If you think it isn't realistic that SOMEONE wouldn't want to add a new team, look how long UAH was left twisting in the wind, and they had an established program. Even as the smallest of the "big 3" hockey conferences, the WCHA has proven to be reluctant to add that "odd" team so I don't see it happening in the near future. They won't try to grow unless they can get two schools to take them to 12.

The only way this Western mess would have benefited D-I growth was if the WCHA and CCHA remained intact as smaller leagues of 6-8 teams each. That would have left both conferences hungry to add new members and might have been more willing to take a flyer with a new team to strengthen their conference. Maybe a small CCHA would have encouraged a few AH teams to join the CCHA and add scholorships, again opening spots for Eastern growth as well. Unfortunately, the mess created by the NCHC just led to one knee jerk reaction after another in college hockey and resulted in the gridlock that exists today - no different than where D-I hockey sat a few years ago. Now we just have two new small conferences, neither of which is really going to open up to new programs from the general population of institutions.

Now when some hicktown college out West starts a D-I program and the NCHC welcomes them with open arms, proving me wrong, then you can call me on it and I'll stand up and face the music. But having seen what has happened the last few years, I think I'm on pretty safe ground. I think there is a better chance of US D-I hockey adding teams from Canada before another US program is created from scratch.
