The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

FYI, the NCHC tourney schedule on the USCHO blog page, here:

http://www.uscho.com/nchc-playoff-central/

Is WRONG.

The UNO/Denver series is Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, if needed, the 13th, 14th, and 15th.

See this link:

http://view.tmclient.ticketmaster.c...362027a7516&camefrom=EMCL_238903_11666702&r=0

MECA, the operating authority for the Clink for the City of Omaha, because they didn't think UNO would get home ice after being picked last in the conference, pre-season, rented the CenturyLink Center out for a Demi Lovato concert on the 16th.

I wish I was kidding, but, I am not.

After notifying the USCHO editor about this today, they have now corrected the schedule:

Someone in the NCHC office I would guess.

Another nice idea from the league. I cannot wait for the WCHA one.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Regarding booking hotels, I have used Hotwire several times and had good luck with really good deals. Plus, I like the suspense of not knowing where I am staying exactly until I book. It's an adventure. This year I got a 4 star downtown Minneapolis for 56 a night. Two rooms with tax came to $154 ended up at the Hilton. It is within walking distance of Target Center. I was pleased with that.

NCHC goal of the year tournament:

Vote early and often.

I note that Michigan was the victim of 2 of these 4 goals here in the first round.

Who on Earth seeded this thing?

Curious to know if everyone's going to be a homer and vote for their team only....making this the "who has the largest online fan base" contest.

Not to be a homer myself.... but if Pitts coast to coast goal doesn't make it to the semi final at least, I question the integrity of this contest..... I consider myself to be very lucky having seen that beauty in person!

The problem is the varying video quality doesn't do many of these goals justice. Plus, I was there for Archibald's (his 8th seed goal) and this decent video doesn't do it justice, largely because the video starts too late in the sequence for you to have seen what happened just before the video starts, which is a large part of his play/goal here. So editing even enters into this in my book. Further, not all have narration, either, and I bet goals with play-by-play fare better. If they don't (and I suspect that might be the case) the contest, as you suspect, will be Homerville USA.

Candidates by school:

UNO, three
UMD, three
WMU, four
SCSU, two
UND, three
MU, one

Plus, the seeding is ridiculous and more subjective than figure skating, as is the the "contest" itself. Fun, but it really doesn't mean very much.

If it's a homer contest then my bet is a North Dakota goal wins this contest.

North Dakota hockey fans = Nebraska Cornhusker football fans.

At the same time, I think you could argue Caggiula's goal is one of the best out of the group. I'd say it's between that and the Pitts goal for who should win. If it came down to situational goal, Pitts wins by a mile with an OT winner & on outdoor ice but based on pure skill to pull it off you could argue Caggiula for the combination of the move and the ridiculous shot.

I count myself lucky to be about 10 rows up behind the net when that goal happened. Just don't ask me how the rest of the series went.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Not sure how the Brodziniski unassisted goal against tUMD back on 12/6 didnt make the top 5 that week. I would think that goal would make the final four in this bracket, wish i could write it in!

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Funny how it's just the two Colorado Schools that didn't make this contest at all.

Light air and cannabis effect?

Total goals:

SCSU - 125
UNO - 112
UND - 104
UMD - 99
Miami - 96
WMU - 93

DU - 92
CC - 66

The odds were against them being they scored the least amount of goals, strange though that the next lowest scoring team has 4 in this contest...

Interesting observation, except, this isn't the number of shots on goal, like you say above, but rather the actual number of goals.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

All-NCHC teams announced

NCHC All-Conference First Team
Josh Archibald, Jr., F, Nebraska Omaha
Nic Dowd, Sr., F, St. Cloud State
Austin Czarnik, Jr., F, Miami
Dillon Simpson, Sr., D, North Dakota
Joey LaLeggia, Jr., D, Denver
Sam Brittain, Sr., G, Denver

NCHC All-Conference Second Team
Chase Balisy, Sr., F, Western Michigan
Riley Barber, So., F, Miami
Michael Parks, Jr., F, North Dakota
Jacob Slavin, Fr., D, Colorado College
Jordan Schmaltz, So., D, North Dakota
Ryan Faragher, Jr., G, St. Cloud State

No beefs with the first team but the second team is awful.

Faragher is the second best goalie in the conference? Ridiculous.
Barber and Parks over Brodzinski? Please.

Agreed. SBN's awards were much better.

Even if Parks was an attempt to work in a North Dakota forward, how in the heck could anybody vote for him over Grimaldi?
Two forwards from the last place team?
Faragher over Gothberg?
Brodzinski was 2nd in NCHC goals and 4th in NCHC points!

Well it's the coaches and a player from each team voting, so maybe they are basing their voting only on the games they saw/coached/played in.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Gee, I have absolutely no idea who the conference player of the year is gonna be.;)
