NCHC TV Schedule.

UMD is only on twice. It's only on Fridays and I assumed it would be on both nights.
It seems really odd that North Dakota would not be able to have all Saturday games on FCS, etc. I'm not at all surprised that its only on Fridays much like previous CBS/NBC Sports hockey coverage has been...Saturday is Basketball. I'm also surprised by the distribution.

6 North Dakota
5 Miami-Ohio
4 Colorado College
4 St Cloud State
4 Western Michigan
2 Denver
2 Minnesota-Duluth
1 Nebraska-Omaha

I'm pretty surprised that some teams would get 6/5 while others get 1/2, especially the 1 for UNO.

The thing is the large gaps in the schedule...two doubleheaders in October and November (10/18 & 11/15)? Not to mention nothing between December 13 and January 10 plus January 31 missing?

I am surprised only 15 regular season games are being televised.

Isn't this contract one the reason they had to leave the [W|C]CHA? Pretty sad lineup. I'm assuming the teams still have there local coverage right?

Must be the big bull riding events.

Disappointing to see only Friday night games. Sucks to be a UND fan. As a UMD fan it makes me happy I can see my team at least once on the road. Good deal for us, bad deal for UND

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

I'm surprised at the CBS schedule, given Denver and UNO were major players in the formation of the NCHC. A bit of a disappointment I'm sure to these teams who had visions of grandeur from the very beginning to generate huge profits from TV revenue. IIRC the break off from the WCHA was primarily launched with the expectation they would ink a big TV deal with NBC/Versus (which became NBC Sports Network in Jan., 2013). This was expected to somewhat rival the BTN cash cow driving the newly formed B1G hockey conference. But that deal fell through when Notre Dame decided to go with Hockey East putting HE in the driver's seat to ink a deal with NBCSN instead.

The multi-year contract between CBS College Sports and NCHC guarantees a minimum of 18 games/season. NCHC got the minimum. CBS Sports Network currently estimates there are 48 million subscribers, a bit south of BTN (53M) and NBCSN (80M). My understanding is BTN is committed to broadcasting at least 40 BTHC games.

However, the contract does not preclude NCHC teams from maintaining or signing onto Regional Sports Networks (RSNs) and current local coverage such as North Dakota with it's local UND Sports Network, and Denver on Root Sports, for example will continue.

DU at 2 games? Maybe they'll have a down year...but still.
CBS sports must have found out that DU fans are just too busy, because there is just so much to do in Colorado, to watch games on TV! They can't take the time watch their team when they have skis that desperately need to be waxed!

Goon nailed it in that article. And I couldn't be happier. :)

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Does the exclusive deal mean that games on Root Sports or elsewhere would be blacked out if you're not local? That would really suck for teams like Denver, not that many people outside of Denver really care about Denver...

That is the way I am reading it and it looks to be the explaination that has been floated over with UND fans. Games that are not on CBSSN can be shown on regional networks in regional markets, but cannot go national.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Why the hell would anyone start a new conference that signs a TV deal where you're team in on less than it was before?

The games can be on regional networks that are carried nationally. So someone with Dish in New York will be able to watch DU vs CC on Root Sports. The games can not be aired on national networks that just pick and choose games to do here and there, like FCS.

There are no black-out restrictions for regional networks.

Why do you assume that? This really is new territory for college hockey. Granted, I don't remember ever seeing a college sporting event blacked out on purpose on Dish/DirecTV but the way I read this, there is likely to be blackouts on regional networks? What distinction are you seeing that this would not be the case? FCS cannot carry any NCHC college hockey games on a regional sports network or cannot have a specific contract with a school like they used to have with UND? UND is really the only team I've ever heard of having a contract with FCS...the rest of the games I've seen on those when I had them were from other Fox Sports Networks...like FSWI or FS Detroit...
