Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Whatever. It's still 6 Million more then the <s>Midwest Wireless</s> <s>Alltel</s> Verizon Wireless Center cost the Minnesota taxpayers. Even the Rodents paid for their own building*.

Except they aren't. It is 6 million, genius. SCSU is responsible for the other 24 million.

If you are going to complain about how the state is helping pay for it, at least know what you are complaining about. You are trying to make it look like SCSU is getting a huge handout. Did you do the same when UMD got money from the state for their arena? And, hey whaddya know? MSUM now has their hand out and is asking for money from the state to renovate their arena, too. The state is paying for $6 million or 17% of the cost of the NHC renovations. How much did the "rodents" get for their football stadium?

But yeah, make a stink about the piddly 6 mil we got from the state. It really makes you look smart.

Yes Jan, you're right, you're not the only one that got a raise in their allowance, but Greg really needed a new place for his banner, and they wouldn't let Peter into their club without a new playhouse. We all know that Marcia is the favorite, so she gets whatever she wants. But it could be worse Jan, we didn't give Cindy anything at all. In other terms that I'm certain you can relate to, 6 million will buy a lot of beer.

Why are you wasting your immense intellect on this forum? Never has such a sage retort been uttered as your "whatever", after you majorly fudged the numbers. I am not a Rhodes scholar like you and am having trouble finding out what your point is in this entire conversation. Your brilliant Brady Bunch allegory leaves out the facts that Greg and Jan requested this money BEFORE the formation of the club and BEFORE Peter requested his money. It also leaves out the fact that Peter is awful at hockey and wouldn't have been let into the club even if he had a new playhouse.

Seriously, what is your argument here? You have a problem with SCSU getting money, but not the U of M or UMD? That is pretty reasonable...

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

I've been to the Kohl center. It is much better than Target Center for hockey.

I get that a lot of people feel that Target Center is going to make some significant improvements to make it a suitable hockey venue. But it's going to take a lot. I guess I'm in the "I'll believe it when I see it" camp.

I have been to both multiple times and TC is alot better than KC. All the seats in the lower bowl at TC are good seats. I have sat 10 or 12 rows up at KC and had blind spots as bas as the old Marriucci. I agree the renovations won't fix the dreadful upper deck at TC. Of course even that is better than the third deck at KC where you can only see all of the ice in the first three rows....

Man, that has not been my experience. I've been in the second level every time I've been to Kohl Center, and never had any issues seeing the ice. My biggest complaint about the fan experience there (aside from those smelly Sconni's:p) was the huge gap between the corner boards and the stands.

But I am really talking about more than just the fan experience at Target Center (although that is certainly part of it). I didn't notice the ice at Kohl Center to be nearly as wretched as it has been at Target Center, nor were the boards/glass as bad. My guess is that with the renovations the boards at Target Center will be better, but that ice is total ****. That's going to be a lot harder to rectify without some serious investment.

Supposedly they are going to put the ice in several weeks before the tournament. Before, they did it just a few days beforehand, so hopefully putting the ice in earlier helps somewhat with that issue.

I find that hard to believe. The Wolves are not going to be going on a several week road trip every year to make way the NCHC. The Target Center is built for the Wolves. The NCHC tournament is just like any other event that they hold, a secondary concern. I'm sorry, just won't happen. Unless the court is put in over the top of the ice, but that wouldn't improve the ice quality.

Wow! I think you need a drink.

My point was that the Concrete center needed renovation money more then the Verizon Center. (see: post #272)

I never said that anyone should have been left out when the state was handing out checks, I just got the amount of JBSU's check wrong, which clearly upset you. Then scsutommyboy starts name-calling ;) and here we are.

Sorry.

They seem to be committed to it (we'll find out just how committed in March of 2014)...

CHN Article said:
Scherr said there have been "very specific discussions" on ice quality.

Mattson has worked at the Target Center since the building opened and said past problems could be attributed to quick turnaround times required from the staff. Ice before the state high school tournaments in 1999 and 2000 were put in a few days before the tournament, Mattson recalled.

"We know we've got to get it made earlier, give it a proper amount of time to get it ready, get it skated on and get it roughed up — that's a challenge we're up for," Mattson said.

Mattson said ice will likely be made in mid-February to avoid potential problems and the Timberwolves would play above the ice with the court placed on a "deck."

"You develop a little bit of a criticism and I'm not going to say those people were wrong, but that is a really high-maintenance crew that we respect and we know we've got to go right at them and try to figure out that maintenance level we need to adhere to," Mattson said.

The Target Center is also in the beginning stages of a multi-million dollar upgrade to the facility in part to funding from a bill to build a new Minnesota Vikings stadium recently passed in the state legislature.

New dasher boards and locker rooms with improved amenities were specific hockey upgrades Mattson noted. He also said the upgrade will help improve the fan experience, though those details are in the works.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

To be fair, is anyone going to notice if the Timberwolves are gone for 10 days?

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Yes you have. There's no need to embellish just to embellish.
How would you know? I don't watch the NBA at all and haven't watched a game since the Timberwolves were actually good.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

I think we should help, out the new WCHA, by letting them keep all their refs.
That is an awesome idea... I would imagine that you will see a few of the more brutal WCHA offiicals not doing NCHC games.
