Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Does anyone know if the NCHC will get an auto-bid for the NCAAs their first year? Also will they have all 8 teams go to the final location of their conference tournament, or play best 2 out of 3 to get down to 4 teams? Thanks.

I believe since they had 6 schools that have played together for at least 2 years. They would qualify right away. I thought I read somewhere that at least 5 schools had to play 2 years together.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

I thought the rule was that any new conference had to play for two years before being able to have an auto-bid. The winner of the NCHC could receive an at large bid, along with any other NCHC school who ranked high enough for those two years, but if a team with less than 10 wins goes on some crazy run and wins the league they would not get an auto-bid until the 3rd year of NCHC play. Also, if I understand the rule correctly, it is an NCAA rule for any new conference in any sport. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me knows about this rule and if precedents have been set by the most recently formed leagues. The formations of Hockey East and the CCHA were before I was born so I cannot remember what happened when those leagues were formed. According to wikipedia, may be wrong, the CHA was formed in 1999 but had to wait until 2003 to get an auto-bid, the AHA page is not as clear but it looks like they had to wait until 2004. Also, if I understand correctly, this rule does not apply to the BTHC because, although it is a new sport in the B1G, the B1G is already an established conference. Let me know if I am mistaken. Thanks.

I remeber reading the same thing, but don't know the source. Since football doesn't have a Championship playoff, wholesale changes in the Wac, Mountain West. etc don't matter

Brainstorm: NCHC could hold their own inter-conference poser of the year contest. The winner could be dubbed the Nacho Man.

As expected, NCHC will announce Target Center as its postseason tournament home on Monday.

Can't say that I'm thrilled, but I think Minneapolis/St. Paul was the best neutral location. Hopefully the upgrades that they make to the Target Center will be a plus for hockey.

I wonder if they look elsewhere to see if they can find a better venue. But it will be the best spot for best attendence IMO.

IMO the venue itself is the only downside, and I'm really not that offended by the thought of watching hockey at Target Center.

It's the only spot, but I don't want to feed JDUBBS theories. Minneapolis/St.Paul that is.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

Still say we should take the X in Big's off years. What're we afraid of losing Target Center to the WCHA? If we ever wanted to take it back we could by process of bidding.

Re: The NCHC: Just be glad its NaCHo League

anyone think its odd UND and UMD ADs are making this announcement, not the one of the two new NaCHo guys?

Just a guess, but the odds are that the Target Center offered the NCHC a killer deal [Rhymes with "TREE"]. The Target Center & the NCHC have essentially become parters.

Agreed. Not having an SCSU representative present at Target Center for the tournament site announcement on Monday would be a mistake by the NCHC. One of many to come in the future.

Not a good idea. Consistency is critical. But I am wondering how things will go if these tourneys are competing with each other. If the Gophers are at the X, it certainly might not be pretty. I find it unlikely that either league would want to not have their tourney on the weekend before the NCAAs. I think Omaha would be a good location for the years that the Big 10 is in the cities. It's actually a slightly shorter average trip than MSP for the schools.

I dought having the NCHC and Big 10 tour going on at the same will change attendance much. People tend to spend theoney to follow there own team.

Or is it THEIR own team there? The effect will be on the casual fan. They can't go to two games at once.
