American Hustle - Meh

Don't get me wrong, it's a good movie. Just don't think it came anywhere near living up to the hype.

There were some solid performances, the period piece stuff from the late 70s (including font) was fun, but the hustle itself was underwhelming as you could see it coming as it was happening.

The scene with the mob-boss was pretty tense though and that was a fun one not knowing what would come of it.

Saw Neighbors on Friday. It was enjoyable, mostly funny. Some stuff seemed forced and I actually thought some of the underplayed jokes were funnier than the ones that were built up, but I didn't feel like I wasted money. I'd say 2.5/4 stars. Rogan was good but ruined a couple scenes doing the Ron Burgundy "let me talk through moments of passion by commentating on what's happening" without the touch Will Ferrell has.

I saw it today...the milking scene had me dying. "get on all fours I'll get some buckets"

I saw a Neighbors ad with the DeNiro bit that looked fantastic. "Hoo aaa!"

(Yes, that was Pacino which is the joke)

Got 2 for Godzilla tonight on the Ultra Screen.

Hope it's good.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Holy crap, the ultra screen has individual recliners that recline electronically. Guess I haven't been here in a bit. Awesome.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

Godzilla = Pacific Rim 2

Was okay. Good, even.

The effects were top notch. The rest was average at best.

The movie-going experience has really came a long way though.

The aforementioned recliners - seriously have your own space with no one in front of you in an actual recliner.

The sound system - the floor shakes with the base and the surround is noticeably better.

Assigned seating - we got to choose our seats.

I realize that they have to compete with my recliner and my 60 inch & surround and they're off to a good start.

Marcus Theaters has started using those recliners around here. I don't know if it's for all screens they show, but they advertise it like crazy. The Carmike Theaters - the other theater that's closest to my home, has actually changed its pricing structure in order to compete with Marcus. Evening/night shows are now down to $5.75 during weekdays, which used to be the matinee only price. On weekends, they charge $7.25 all day. I think the fancy seats at the Marcus theater are $10 each.

Re: The Movie Thread: New, Rented, Whatever....I don't care

The fancy theater at West End in St Louis Park has reclining nice seats in a couple theaters. And you can eat/drink (even booze) in those theaters. IIRC, tix cost a dollar or two more for the privilege. It's worth it. Plus, if you go early enough tix are about $4-5, which is a steal nowadays.

That's a Showplace ICON theater, and it rules. Not easy on the wallet though, like you mentioned.

Sun morn 9-10 am start times rule, though. Cheap, and empty theater. ;)

But any other time....yeah, you are paying for it.

If someone goes to the theater and had not grown up watching Godzilla on late night Saturday TV then, yes, I agree it's Pacific Rim 2. For someone who grew up doing that very thing the movie is WAY more than Pacific Rim 2 and hit all the high points with ease. Including the cheesy acting.

Especially for someone who went to the Broderick '98 version expecting that very thing and got instead one of the 10 worst movies of all time.

Yeah, we have those too. They're called "Emagine Theaters" around here. I think for another $2, you get a wider leather seat and a concierge. I found the whole thing to be a little silly, especially considering that their regular seats are actually an upgrade from standard theater seats, but some people do pay for it.

$2 extra and I get someone that brings me drinks during the movie? TOTALLY WORTH IT.
