The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

Re: The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

When we bought our first house the house inspector 'missed' an enormous bat colony in our attic. The first night we moved in I was there alone* and at Oh dark thirty a bat started flying around my bedroom. What a fiasco. You can't kill bats, against the rules. I take the 5th at what they did. I called the inspection place and lit them up. They paid for the fix and refunded the $ we paid for inspection

* (mr les professed that if we moved in together, even tho my parents didn't speak to each other, dad les had the guns and mum les would buy the bullets- and he was right. life was different then)

The first week I was in a new house I bought I had the same problem. Woke up in the middle of the night to a bat flying around my bedroom, buzzing the tower. I happened to have a racquetball racquet in a box near the bed. I grabbed it, took a big overhand stroke and made contact. Hitting a bat in mid-flight in a completely dark room was the easy part. I flipped on the light and spent the next hour searching for the carcass. Won't do that again.

I’ve been super lucky in this regard. I’m 34 and I have only had to really move once.

This utterly blows me away. From the time I graduated college to the time I bought my first house 18 years later I moved 12 times, 9 of them between states.

86 NY --> MA
87 MA --> NY
88 NY --> CA
90 CA --> MA
92 within MA
94 within MA
95 MA --> NC
96 NC --> MA
98 MA --> OR
99 within OR
03 OR --> VA
04 VA --> MD

Yeah, but VA to MD and the like aren't really between states. Technically yes, but in spirit? It's like moving from Minneapolis to Duluth :p ;)

But yes, I've been fairly stable. Because it's kind of perfect here. High standard of living, relatively low cost of living, more Fortune 500 companies per capita than any other state, reasonable wages, not a lot of people, actual green areas, varied weather, more shoreline than CA, FL, and HI combined, access to Canada should the need arise, great hockey, amazing cultural opportunities.

There isn't any other state like it.

Since college, I've moved 6 times. Until the move currently in process, we last moved 9 years ago. This one is hopefully it until we move into a retirement home in 50 years.

Re: The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

I have a feeling the next 10-15 I will move at least twice. One when future mrs. dx and I get hitched and have kids, probably once more for a job. After that, it's essentially waiting for the kids to move out and we get to build our dream home.

You think you have it all planned out, but that's not your job in the relationship. :p

Lol yeah yeah.

But we’ve also talked about it a number of times. We’re pretty coequal

Since buying the house in '04 we've moved once in '17. I have one more in me in '27 and I'm done. The ice floe in '50 will be a trip, not a move.

Re: The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

I've moved once since grad school, and that ended in 2012. Still living in that apartment. I'd rather spend my disposable income on travel, so therefore I keep the crashpad/home office. I did just spend a bunch of money on upgrading my bedroom set and mattress though.

Re: The List for the 2018-19 Season: Episode 1

I've moved between states 7 times since undergrad. Since the kids are grown but still very mobile, my next move might very well be Earth > Valhalla. I just hope they have a good woodshop up there.

Metal shop, certainly.

Badminton racket. It didn't die. Into a mayo Jar it went.

Moved 7 times before college. After that not as much. Only moved 2 times since grad school.

Metal shop, certainly.

Yeah, they're probably up there sharpening axes and reminiscing about raping and pillaging. We Norskies have devolved and probably don't belong up there anymore.

Researchers have failed to determine if this fallacy in men's thinking is due to a flaw in testosterone or a genetic modification in estrogen.

Crystal MN to tUMD for college (I guess inner ring suburb of NW Mpls?)
tUMD to Crystal
Crystal to Burnsville (south of the river burb of MPLS)
Burnsville to Crystal (but not home, a childhood friend's place)
Crystal to Hopkins (inner ring burb west of Mpls)
Hopkins to Plymouth (NW burb of Mpls)
Plymouth to Golden Valley (same same)
GV to Minnetonka (technically it's same same; I go a mile in 3 of 4 directions, I'm in a different city)

Not a lot of rapists in Valhalla after #metoo.

My "team", as my pastor calls them, is forever on The Anti-List. They really stepped up for me after surgery.
