Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Ferris will be a tough series next weekend. They are a really good defensive team from what I hear. So the Lakers will have to get some prety solid goaltending and good special teams. If not, then we will get swept for sure. We need a split at the very least especially with the Lakers playing Michigan at Yost the weekend after.

Let us hope the A team shows up and doesn't get out sourced to India for the weekend series. If the A team shows, Lakers can get a sweep. If the B team shows, going to be a tough weekend.

BJ and Truth Squid are silent after Laker victories.

Another reason we should all cherish Laker victories.

Last team in to get a league victory and moving up to 9th place. You are right Neil it is tough to argue with such success you people are having up there. Those Northern Michigan people you were talking too must be shaking in their boots with the Lakers success with their third league victory in the past 18 league games. Cherish them indeed! You people are very predicitible!!!!

Roque has a better winning percentage in four years here than Frank had.

What say you, Squid?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Just added the 3 stooges to my ignore list so i look forward to not looking at their pointless B.S. for the rest of the season...As for the weekend, the Lakers played just OK in my opinion Friday, their shots on goal were high in quality and low on quantity and they didn't seem to have a lot of jump in their step, lots of bunching up, getting beat to open pucks, etc. Saturday the schools switched roles as NMU looked to be on the apathetic side of the ledger a bit and the Lakers had the skip in their step...As far as the goaltending situation is concerned it has become clear that we are a better team as of this moment with KK in net...his GAA is a full goal lower but most importantly LSSU is 2-1-1 with him in net as opposed to 1-4-1 with BMW...I'm not saying that BMW should be benched permanently but I think KK should certainly get the start against Ferris Friday and depending on how he and the team play and make the decision for Saturday's game accordingly

Good for you Bill you are truly the smartest man on this forum for shielding the comments of those that speak less than highly of your coach or the direction this team is heading. You wouldn't want to have any discussion of why this team stinks either on this forum or on the airwaves.

Listening to the games on the internet, I thought the guy last year was a homer but I have to admit I miss him because Crawford has truly sold out and is there is no objectivity what so ever or the Lakers never do anything wrong. Mark Ellis is a bit more objective if he can ever get a word in. They both could learn from someone who did the games when he was just a teenager and did an amazing job.

I would love to hear your comments Bill but I guess 2015 recruiting is more important than last place and dare being critical of your coach. Didn't stop you people with the last one!!!!

Actually I don't have any problems with anyone criticizing the team or the coach as long as it's done in a civil manner. But when it's just a repetitious stream of name calling and/or sarcasm without any attempt to have a rational discussion, I'm not interested in participating.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

This one is for all those little guys who’ve been turned away in hockey — or any sport for that matter — based on physical stature.
Newmarket Hurricanes defenceman Kevin Czuczman fits the bill.
Next week, when the NCAA’s fall signing window opens, the defenceman is poised to ink a scholarship package with Lake Superior State University where he will begin classes next year. But for Czuczman (pronounced Church-man), it was no forgone conclusion a hockey career was in the cards.
In fact, he seriously considered giving up chasing any kind of hockey career after last season when, as a member of the Junior B Waterloo Siskins, no NCAA attention came his way.
“I didn’t talk to any schools last year so I thought it was time I got on with my life. I was down after last season when there was no interest.”
Fast forward to a successful tryout with the Newmarket Hurricanes and a steady presence on the team’s blueline. The 19-year-old finally started to generate interest among schools in October and really stepped up his game during the OJHL Governors Showcase.
“Everything has happened so quick, ever since the showcase in Aurora,” said Czuczman, a part-time York University student. “To have something like that thrown at you is pretty overwhelming to say the least.”
In the end, he chose Newmarket over the Oakville Blades and Kingston Voyageurs as a junior destination based on conversations with other players, including teammate Braeden Rigney, with whom we played minor hockey.
“I talked to some guys in the league that I’d played with and it was Newmarket’s track record. It was all Newmarket, Newmarket, Newmarket.”
Overlooked in his Ontario Hockey League draft year, Czuczman was discouraged when his minor midget coach moved him to the forward lines.
There isn’t much call for a five-foot, five-inch defenceman in junior hockey. It’s a long way from the six-foot-three, 200-pound-frame with which he is now patrolling the Hurricanes’ blue line, tallying one goal and 10 points in 19 games.
“My whole life, I played defence,” Czuczman said. “Then, in my draft year, my coach moved me to forward. He thought I was too small to play defence. I want to play pro one day so it’s twice as hard. But it is added motivation.”
The scholarship package is significant and a payoff, perhaps, for the way the hockey gods have treated him in recent seasons. He is expected to sign the paperwork Nov. 10.
He also had discussions with schools such as Clarkson and Dartmouth.
Hurricanes head coach Brian Perrin remembers Czuczman from his days as a member of the Grey-Bruce Highlandes triple-A program.
“He was really good, but so small,” Perrin said. “I guess he just shot up and grew into his body.”
Now that his future is decided, he vows there will be no letup in his game as he tries to help the Hurricanes match last season’s run to the OHA final.
“I want the whole team to get scholarships or move on to the next level,” he said.

Good sized kid isn't he? If he can skate well and can do a decent job of keeping the front of the net reasonably clean, he could be a good D pickup for the Lakers.

You've handled it well, Bill. If you actually look at the posts of Truth Squad (and his other aliases), they all seem to revolve around a crush he/she has on Francis Anzalone.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I am a Laker fan and enjoy the conversation here about the team and the perspective of other fans about games, recruiting and what is happening with the team in general. I happen to think Saturday's game was one of the best I have seen them play in some time. I was impressed the goal tending and defense – Great Job guys! However, if Roque continues to put BMW in goal on Friday and K2 on Saturday I will continue to go to Saturday games. He needs to look at who has been doing the best for the team and gives the team the best opportunity to win. K2 has earned the opportunity to be the top Goalie. As for the conversation about replacing Roque; this conversation needs to be held in February after we see how the 6th season goes. I will be happy to jump in with my thoughts then. However, he is the coach today and I will support the kids on the team. As I said before if the team plays like they are capable of it will be a fun season. See you there Saturday. GO LAKERS!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Roque told the Evening News KK will start Friday.

"He's (Kapalka) having success and playing well, how do I not play him?" Roque said. "His last three starts have been good and he's earned that opportunity."

BMW probably has been a bit unlucky in that some of his Friday appearances have been when the Lakers didn't play very good D around the net. On the other hand, the one game I saw him play in person, he only gave up one goal but did appear to be fighting the puck on several other shots.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

A few items from the Laker Hockey Show:

Acton is still questionable for this weekend. They should know more by Thursday or Friday.

Nehring is out with a concussion as a result of the hit from Hansen at the end of Saturday's game. He definitely won't play this weekend.

They expect to have three recruits sign this week for sure. 2 F and 1 D. Hoping to hear from another D in the next few days about whether he will sign. He visited a week ago. There will be another kid (I think a F) in for a visit this weekend.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

It would be nice if the CCHA would follow up on the end of the game hit on Nehring.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

If a player isn't big, he can make it to D1 or "the show" if he is quick and has his headon a swivel!!! My son played for Little Caesars AAA and one of our best players was about
5'5". He saw the ice exceptionally well, and was a waterbug on the ice. Everyone said that he was too small for D1 hockey, but after watching D1 for over a decade, he easily could have played, if he had the grades to duck under the NCAA guidelines!

Agreed. My feeling is that the Lakers have generally stayed away from small, quick players in the recruiting process; but if they play tough enough on ice, I say go after them. I think a couple of them in the mix can help any team if they are quick enough and not afraid of contact.

I would rather have quickness and speed over size. You can't hit what you can't catch.

What say you, Squad?

Frank Anzalone built the program, put your little town and college on the map, coached one national championship team, largely responsible for the other 2 championships and was building the program again before the coup ushered out of town. The team getting to the CCHA Championships two years later are a tribute to the legacy of Frank Anzalone.

And he did that in the late 80s/early 90s. Now its over a decade later. He came back, tried to use the same style hockey. It didnt work. He couldnt win games. He got booted. Roque took over. Won some games and took the team to the Joe. Has he been great? No. Has he done better in his tenure than Frank did in his 2nd? Yes. I dont disagree that Roque should probably be on the hot seat. But if you and the others are going to suggest that Roque get fired...then contribute to the debate and come up with some thoughts on who best to replace him, besides Frank. And dont come back with the Joe Shawhan stuff either. We all know things didnt go well for him at Lake State and its unlikey he will come back without major changes in the athletic department as a whole. When the Lakers lose and play poorly, all us fans suffer. But the difference is the rest of us try to look on the bright side and try to have civil conversation and debate about changes that need to occur. The rest of you (the truth twins and Boot_Jim_Roque) just come on here and troll. I dont disagree that you are free to do so. Just dont be surprised when people put you on ignore or throw the insults right back at you.

I agree for the most part. Size does come in handy when you need that guy who can screen in front of the net on the powerplay and what not.
