Gutless pukes. Funny how, after 50 years of “states’ rights!!!!” they fold like a Hallmark card when it actually starts costing them elections.

Well, that’s a theory. However, because of the last election, Republicans hold all three seats in Congress, virtually every statewide elected office, a 43-4 advantage in the state senate and an 83-11 advantage in the state house, it’s a little thin.
 
Here's a little something to stimulate thought-

"(82.3%) [residents applying for matches] would prefer to work or train in states with preserved abortion access. In fact, more than three-quarters (76.4%) of respondents would not even apply to states with legal consequences for providing abortion care. The same holds true for states with early or complete bans on abortion or Plan B. In other words, many qualified candidates would no longer even consider working or training in more than half of U.S. states."

"The impact of abortion restrictions will extend beyond the clinical practice decisions of reproductive healthcare providers -- states will likely see an shortage of clinicians across every medical field, from orthopedic surgery to dermatology to oncology. Many Docs stick close to where they did their Residency. Many hospitals rely on Residents to help provide care... Red States are already places you are more likely to die or have bad outcomes. Now they will be dying States.
Do you think the fat old white guys will think keeping a strangle hold on political appointments is worth dying for when there is no one to care for their cardiac event or cancer? The metrics in these places are already worse than many third world countries (for real, not just an snide comment). Sure there will be those who will want to martyr themselves and try to save the sinking ship but you are not going to find enough of them to be working in a place where there is inadequate, unsafe levels of staffing and the ability to provide good care is compromised beyond repair...

Unfortunately there will be a lot of suffering before there will be any improvement (if ever).

There were already 2 levels of care- Public health stats show blue States tend have better healthcare accessiblilty, better outcomes - directly related to better funding and social programs. Red States have poorer healthcare systems, significantly worse outcomes, do not fund their healthcare or social programs and have less capacity and accessibility.

Until a few yrs ago the discrepancy used to be less noticeable in urban areas but they were starting to see problems with staffing and closing of facilities before covid During covid they were not filling openings and a lot of traveling med professionals declined to go, even the big centers. This will be the nail in the coffin (for real). Depending who is on at the time you are seeing the patient if you provide care you could be in trouble, if you don't provide care you could be negligent. Both options are possible. Who in their right mind wants to Practice in that?

With the legal climate constantly shifting, they have already moved the Boards for some specialties out of these States (TX is a big one). Expect to see more of that as the Red Tide States keep passing laws that are not based on reality.

Reasons cited were- the Residents need to be able to discuss, be aware of and discuss standard medical care. The State laws made it illegal to do so. As important, or possibly more important, Residents should not be required to travel to a place they would not be able to obtain appropriate care if they should have a medical event. <-- this is really a big deal as many Residents specifically said they would NOT travel to these places and put themselves at risk.
 
The result is that hospitals in christofascist areas will need to pay through the nose to attract contract staff, for all the reasons you mention, and that will further drive up the cost of care.

Yup...and my heart bleeds for them. Well it bleeds for the people who cant afford to leave...the rest can choke on it.
 
A Wisconsin man was identified from DNA pulled from a partially eaten burrito and arrested in the firebombing of an anti-abortion lobbying group’s office last year, prosecutors said.
The man, Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, of Madison, Wisconsin, was arrested at Logan International Airport in Boston on Tuesday, according to the office of the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin in Madison.
He was charged with one felony count of attempting to cause damage by means of fire or an explosive.
