The anti abortion activists are going to be actively recruiting and deploying bounty hunters. No abortion is safe in Texas.

I imagine that any clinic that offers any women’s health services will have spotters out there taking down license plates. If I was uber driver I would refuse fares to any women’s health center

That may not be true. Everyone is a target of opportunity now. And as more white women get abortions than anyone else, they may suffer proportionally.

Remember, the scumbags behind this aren't being driven by racial animus, they are pure authoritarians. In a police state the middle class goes under the boot, too. Only the rich are exempt.

They won't but we will see. White Women have privileges WOC don't...even poor ones.

Why? I would only do that. Think of the bounties you could make!

(just keep a gun in the car)

Trolling the reporting site made a capital crime in 3.....2.....

(because we love children, you understand)

lol point to anything else where white people suffer proportionately. Your optimism is showing again, please put it away.

Honest question: why is this not a major HIPAA violation?

It would be if somehow Planned Parenthood (or whomever is providing these services) releases their patient list, which they'd rather chew off all four limbs than do even if required.

Your nosy neighbor or the obnoxious protestor isn't a covered entity by HIPAA, so if they somehow get this information and release it... they didn't violate any law. More importantly, it doesn't require actual knowledge of actual abortion. It's as inane as the old witch trials. The accusation is sufficient to cause major problems, and requires the defendant to prove a negative. And more absurdly, even if they do, they are specifically not entitled to court cost reimbursement.

Sounds like the very kind of law that the Supreme Court of the United States should let stand via Shadow Docket.

There hasn’t been a lot of crowing - or reaction at all- from a lot of prominent Rs. I think many of them realize this could really hurt their midterm turnout while you have millions of people who don’t want to live in a stasi state

But the case would be referred to a public court of law. You would be outting them for the record. They would be forced/compelled to discuss it in order to defend themselves.

The person reporting it wouldn't be violating HIPAA but wouldn't the State of Texas?

(I freely admit I have no fucking clue how HIPAA works I am asking out of ignorance)

edit: asked my gf (she deals with HIPAA) and she seems to think a case could be made for it but the research she did doesn't seem to specify it either way and the wording is vague.

It wouldn't matter. Only "covered entities" are help to the accountability aspect of this, and that jackass who's accusing everyone isn't that.
