I have spoken with Snively65 already about the Atlantic Hockey summaries, but I have not received or heard from drshoen (Princeton's summary) or gfmorris (Alaska's summary). That's strange, I sent Princeton and Brown via email (through the USCHO link in your profile) a while ago. Not sure why they didn't go through. Can you email me (drshoen@aol.com) and I'll reply?

#56 – Connecticut Huskies

UConn entered the 2016-17 looking to take a step forward. Returning Sophomores Tage Thompson an Max Letunov led the team in scoring as freshman and offered hope that increased scoring and steady goaltending from Rob Nichols. Wins over three of the top four teams in Hockey East including a three point weekend against Lowell highlighted the season, but a disappointing showing out of conference including a loss on the road to AIC proved to be too much to overcome. Letunov and Thompson both regressed a bit on the offensive front and Thompson will seek greener pastures likely splitting time between the NHL and AHL come next season. UConn returns promising Freshman goalie Adam Huska, who along with Letunov will hope to make UConn into a contender for home ice in the first round. – UML Puck Hawk

#55 – Canisius Golden Griffins

Canisius was the most improved team in the AHC this past season (21-11-7 vs 12-22-5), edged out Air Force by a point for the regular season AHC championship, and finished the season with a 17-game unbeaten streak before losing 6-2 to Robert Morris in the AHC tourney semifinals. The Golden Griffins (25th in PWR) only won one OOC game, but four of their five OOC losses were away at North Dakota and Penn State. Assistant Coach Trevor Large the past three seasons replaces Head Coach Dave Smith, who becomes Head Coach at Rensselaer. Canisius is losing only two seniors to graduation, but one of them is their goalie and Hobey top 10 candidate Charles Williams (0.943 SV% and 1.82 GAA). Another season like the past one should move up the Golden Griffins in these rankings. – Snively65

Surprising that they moved down from last year with a 20+ win season.

#54 – Army West Point Black Knights

Army West Point continued to improve this past season (18-14-5 vs 14-15-9), recording their first winning record since the 2007-2008 season when the Black Knights were 19-14-4. Army tied with Robert Morris for third place in the AHC regular season, once again made it to the AHC tourney, and once again got knocked out in the semifinals, this time 1-0 by Air Force, which went on to win the tourney. In their five OOC games, the Black Knights (36th in PWR) were 1-2-2, with a win and tie against Colgate and a tie at Dartmouth. Army is only losing five to graduation, but one of those five is goalie Parker Gahagen (0.934 SV%, 2.00 GAA), who logged over 2000 minutes in goal each of the past two seasons. With 10 of their 12 top scorers returning, the Black Knights should push to move up in these rankings, if they can effectively replace Gahagen in net, make a run at conference hardware, and perhaps finally make the NCAA Tournament. – Snively65

#53 – Robert Morris Colonials

Robert Morris played almost as strong a season as last (22-12-4 vs 24-11-4), tied Army for third place in the AHC regular season, and like last year made it to the title game in the AHC tourney, this time losing 2-1 to Air Force. The Colonials (26th in PWR, right behind Canisius) won four of their six OOC games, one each against Ohio State, Dartmouth, Ferris State, and Quinnipiac, along with a tie against Ohio State and a loss against Dartmouth. Robert Morris is losing only five seniors, but one is their second leading scorer in Daniel Leavens (49 points); the Colonials have their AHC-leading scorer (Brady Ferguson, 58 points) and their first-year goalie Francis Marotte (17 wins, 0.931 SV%, 2.08 GAA) returning. If the Colonials continue their recent success they will likely climb in these rankings. – Snively65

#52 – Alabama-Huntsville Chargers

Alabama-Huntsville appears to have turned the corner, posting 24 Division I wins in the past three seasons after just nine in the four seasons prior.

The 2016-17 season was largely seen as a disappointment by Charger fans, with the team regressing in most of the counting categories that truly matter. In short, senior goaltending didn't stop pucks and new forwards and old couldn't score reliably.

The 2017-18 season brings the Chargers fully into the Mike Corbett era, as the team will be full of recruits from his team of coaches, who have remained in place since he took the helm. The Chargers will be thin in proven net minders and looking for someone (anyone) to score. – gfmorris

#51 – Penn State Nittany Lions

The Nittany Lions had a great year, achieving several mileposts after just the program’s 5th year as a D1 program. They had a 25 win season, were ranked number 1 in the country for the first time, won the Big Ten championship and made their first trip to the NCAA tournament, winning their first game and then losing to the eventual national champion. They return most of the core team, losing five seniors and one sophomore – ’17-’18 should be another strong season. – Siouxfaninseattle

Not necessarily surprising but they accrued 88% of their total points from the past season and more points than any team they passed had earned as a team in 5 previous seasons. Will be interesting to watch their ascent over the years. Obviously it won't be sustainable year over year, but based upon potential they should see another jump next year.

Penn State definitely made a nice jump this season. If they make the NCAA Tournament again next season they will have a strong chance at jumping a couple spots. If they don't, they almost certainly won't move up, and could very well be caught by a team behind them. Long term though, you are correct. Penn State will almost certainly rise in these rankings over the next 5-10 years, and could make a big jump if they can make a Frozen Four.

#50 – Massachusetts Amherst Minutemen

UMass-Amherst entered the season with limited expectations. With new coach Greg Carvel hired (with a new AD who cared enough about men’s hockey not to have the entire interviewing process incredibly public); fans were hopeful their boys would at least try harder than perceived in the last few years. According to their fans they showed that progress, but the fact is in 16-17 UMass-Amherst was swept by Arizona State and got shutout by AIC. They did beat Notre Dame in conference play, making them partially responsible for Notre Dame leaving Hockey East with no hardware. Record wise this is the worst season for UMass-Amherst since at least the turn of the century. As many as ten underclassmen will not be returning next season, but a 12 member recruiting class headlined by Cale Makar (#9 NHL Central Scouting) will help to bring some pride back to the program, or at least bring them their first win in 2017. – UML Puck Hawk

#49 – Alaska Nanooks

Both schools in the University of Alaska system faced an uncertain future as the 2016-17 season dawned: would funding cuts mean the end of their programs? A variety of solutions were bandied about, with a possible outcome that Alaska would keep men’s ice hockey while Alaska-Anchorage would not. In the end, it seems that both schools have been spared, although the vultures do continue to circle.

On the ice, the post-Colton Parayko era for the Nanooks was a bit of a dead-cat bounce from the previous season, a one in which the Nanooks again slipped into the middle of the playoff pack, finishing 6th in the league standings.

Times could be tough in Fairbanks, as the Nanooks graduate their 1A goaltender (Davis Jones) and top goal-getter (Marcus Basara). In a season where the team struggled to score and stop, these losses don’t bode well. Fairbanks fans must have faith in a return to a team that fights for home ice now that recruits can feel safe that their squad will be around for the long haul. – gfmorris

#48 – Mercyhurst Lakers

Mercyhurst dropped a bit from their above 0.500 record the previous season (15-20-4 vs 17-15-4). Although the Lakers won their first round in the playoffs, they lost 2 of 3 to Army in the second round. Mercyhurst also lost five of their six OOC games, and their lone OOC win came against Alabama Huntsville (45th in PWR). However, the Lakers are losing only four seniors, and have 10 of their top 12 scorers returning, along with their two goalies, so perhaps they can get back on a winning track this coming season. – Snively65
