Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1-#59

Hmmm, five straight losing seasons but positive point generation over that same period? Was there some post season success in there that I forgot?

Guess is that Union and Yale winning the NCAA championship increased the quality of PU's schedule.

Doesn't it increase the value of Princeton's past wins against them?

This is correct. The ECAC teams got a nice bump in the rankings in 2013 and 2014. Princeton earned about 1.5 points due to Yale winning the title, and about 0.25 points when Union won.

Of course, Hockey East teams got a bit of a bump last season when Providence won, and the same is true for the old WCHA when Minnesota Duluth won in 2011.

#42 – NIAGARA PURPLE EAGLES

Points: 7.46468 Points
Points earned in 2015-2016: -.2247 Points
Points earned in past five seasons: .64778 Points
Last Season Ranking: #41

The Purple Eagles had their third straight losing season in 2015-2016, finishing the year at 6-25-6 and dropped a spot in these rankings. Their last winning season was 2012-2013, when they made the national tournament. They return a young team and hopefully can return to a winning season.

It's amazing how far Niagara has fallen lately. After some early good years, they have been near the bottom of the league. Kind of wonder what is going on over there.

For example, 1999-2000 when the Lakers hung the Epic Fail pin on UNH, who managed to match that pin 10 years later against the Tigers?

#41 –WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS

Points: 8.08314 Points
Points earned in 2015-2016: -.0184 Points
Points earned in past five seasons: 2.04224 Points
Last Season Ranking: #40

The Broncos suffered through their second consecutive losing season, going 8-25-3. The road was not kind to them, winning only once to go 1-17-2. They return 8 seniors to this year’s team and have the 2nd highest draft pick in school history. They will need to get back on track for a winning season to avoid dropping another spot next year.

#40 – MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO MAVERICKS

Points: 8.30617 Points
Points earned in 2015-2016: 1.0947 Points
Points earned in past five seasons: 5.69657 Points
Last Season Ranking: #43

The Mavericks moved up three spots in these rankings, thanks to a fourth straight 20+ win season, and tied for first in the WCHA with Michigan Tech. Their season ended with a loss to WCHA playoff winner Ferris State. They will rely on a fairly young team, with eight incoming freshmen, to continue to move up.

We're out of the bottom third! Onward and upward, baby!

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1-#59

If we continue moving up 3 spots a year by 2030 we will be # 1.
Good luck with that! :D Of course, it is unlikely that most of the programs in the top 10 will make it a habit of tanking regularly to open up room for that kind of movement. ;)

Michigan, UND, and Minnesota were all over 400 points last year. Providence picked up over 30 points last year with their national title win. MSMU has a little over 8 points total and earned just over 1 point last year. You'll have to pick up the pace to keep moving up the list.

I will start posting again when I get back to Seattle (or possibly before) by the end of the month.

#39 –NEBRASKA OMAHA MAVERICKS

Points: 10.46315 Points
Points earned in 2015-2016: .0164 Points
Points earned in past five seasons: 6.76975 Points
Last Season Ranking: #39

The Mavericks had a disappointing season in ’15-’16, finishing just a game over .500 at 18-17-1, while winning just five games after Christmas and losing their final eight games. There was a lot of optimism after a 20 win season and a program-first trip to the Frozen Four in ’14-’15. Omaha will look for scoring from someone other than their top scorer from the past two seasons as Jake Guentzel signed a pro contract rather than return for his senior year.
