I've gotta admit, I find it absolutely stunning that Minnesota has won two less titles than NoDak and is so close in the number of points.

Minnesota has a great All Time Winning Percentage, and dominated the Winning Percentage against NCAA Champions. That, coupled with more NCAA Appearances, and NCAA Wins got it very close.

Speaking of win % vs NCAA Champions, did you just count the year they won a title, or once they got the championship they were always a champion? That could skew the numbers pretty harshly where Michigan Tech, Bowling Green, Northern Michigan, Lake State and Harvard are concerned.

Once they were a champion they were always a champion.

Any skew that has happened is typically more than made up for, especially in the cases of Michigan Tech, Lake State and Harvard.

Go Merrimack! 20 years of sucking followed by a title would boost Maine, BC and BU quite a bit :p

Not really. What's interesting, is that if I take the NCAA Champion criteria out, it generally helps the Western Teams. BU drops to 6th, and Maine falls out of the top 10, replaced by Michigan Tech.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

There were no points specifically for longevity, but if you were a program longer it allowed you to tally up more wins against NCAA Champions, more opportunities to make NCAA Tournaments, more chances to get All-Americans and pile up more wins in general. Also, programs that competed in about the first 30 or so NCAA Tournaments made the Frozen Four, and only had to win 2 games to win the title.

Makes sense. I was curious about the case for RIT. They have a strong winning percentage as a DI school and a 2-1 NCAA tournament winning percentage in their only appearance. I would suspect that and their 3 regular season titles (at the time - now 4) really boosted their ranking.

Exactly. RIT made a huge jump with their Frozen Four run last year, and their otherwise excellent numbers. Let's just say if they keep that pace up, in a decade or two they'll be a top 15 program, especially if they can win a title or two.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Wow. I'm honestly impressed that Miami is that high. We haven't been the dynasty for that long :D

Seriously though, considering that up until the past 8 or so years the program had very little highlights. Hell, even up until a couple months ago we still had a losing record for our entire history. Now maybe if we can stop playing Boston schools in April we can break the curse of the chief.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I knew you were going to do this, but since you said "all-time" you should count the national championships before the NCAA, otherwise, it isn't all time.
And it wouldn't be a USCHO thread involving UND and Minnesota if you didn't have a gripe about it! :p :D

Fun read FS23. Thanks for the enjoyment. :)

i just couldn't believe DU was that low, that was the surprising result for me

DU and Clarkson were the two biggest surprises. Although, DU is extremely close to Wisconsin, and will likely overtake them this year (They were ahead of UW up until Wisconsin's run to the Finals last year). If DU has a solid run, say to the Frozen Four or a title, they will likely take over BU as well, and sit in #4.

Minnesota had 22 winning seasons, including an 18-0 undefeated and National Championship year before UND claims they even began playing varsity. I noticed that none of that was included, but then, it is what I expected from a sue fan who started out with the premise that the sue were going to be higher. if you truly went "all time", UND isn't number 2.

It was all included Happy. Every Minnesota season was included. I understand it is difficult for you to accept, but it is the truth. All-Time, according to my formula, North Dakota ranks #2, while Minnesota is #3.

Develop your own ranking using your own criteria. Post it. It would be read with the same interest, dicussion, and criticism as every other ranking system that has been posted.

It would never happen... happy is as unproductive and lazy as the team he roots for.
