The Great Badger Coaching Search of '23: Start Drinking Heavily

Probably not because it's uncommon to leave for a job in the same conference. But that's separate from evaluating what he's done at a school that doesn't care about men's hockey.

I think he’s done a solid job but, in my opinion, there are other candidates that have better resumes.

One thing is for certain, the level of interest in this job is going to show how much Wisconsin’s hockey image has been tarnished over the past 10 years. I remember being at the Bradley Center in 06’ watching Jamie McBain score the winning goal against BC to win the national championship - man, that seems like a million years ago.

Not to quibble with you but that was Tom Gilbert on the game winner. I was there as well

I think Mac will go after Hastings hard. Fickell had other big time offers he apparently turned down (Notre Dam and USC rumors). There was a perception he wouldn't leave Cinci except for maybe OSU.

So I think Mac will recognize Hastings is the man to get and throw him a huge offer. Maybe he'll take it.

I remember sitting next to two NoDak fans for the semi-final against BC and they got jumped on quick before making a game of it.

And I was behind you in the last row at the top. Pavs hit Gilbert in the slot and boom. God we need a good coach.

I was in the last row of the lower bowl right behind that goal. We were probably no more than 15’ apart. “Insert laugh emoji here.”

I was sitting next to a whining BC fan in 2006. He b1tched the whole game. I thought that last shot BC took had a chance to go in in the last few seconds. We were up high but made it down to the glass for the trophy presentation and skate around. Crazy that’s been 17 years and we’ve basically had 2010 and nothing since for ncaa success. When’s the last ncaa tourney game they actually won? Is it 2010? Oof it’s been a terrible last decade.

I just don’t think it’s likely Hastings will leave Mankato. They should have sent the money bags over there 7 years ago. That’s what I wanted at the time.

I get it. I dunno though. The Michigan and Boston schools have went after him apparently? But Boston is across the country. And Michigan is a 2 states away. Madison is a 5 hour drive. Wisconsin is next door, so he's a half day away from his family and friends. And he has the chance to resurrect a dead "giant". It's not as if he is following a legend and pressure is insane to win a title tomorrow... our stands are empty and we are in last place. Granato had a leash 7 years long with zero NCAA wins. I know nothing about this man or his family or anything... but if he were to be open to going to another school, my money would be at Wisconsin at this exact time and opportunity. Someone with even a decent sized ego would love this opportunity.

Based on zero facts I will bet that we get Hastings.
