After several months of bitter legal battles and political tussles, first-term Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens said Tuesday he is resigning as of Friday.

Greitens had been facing a felony charge and possible impeachment during an investigation of claims that he tried to dodge the state's campaign disclosure laws and to blackmail a former lover.

70 million people might want to see Mike Pence hang, but those 70 million people almost all believe this exact thing. The level of stupidity and disconnect in this country is worse than it has ever been.

Some people believe it is possible we have gone beyond the point of no return already with climate change. I believe the same thing applies to the political future of this country. Our entire system needs changing because the system itself (the Senate, a lack of direct election of our chief executive, and gerrymandering) is rigged to favor the other side almost exclusively. This cannot be fixed because the people who could do the fixing do not have the will and will not communicate in plain language just how dire the situation is. And even if they did, too many Americans who are otherwise not on the wrong side refuse to believe it because it is so disturbing TO believe it.

Sometimes when my mind wanders to the darkest places it ever reaches I come to the conclusion that had the insurrectionists gotten to Pence and actually strung him up maybe that would have been what it would take to make people see how dire things are. Eventually it will probably come to that anyway.

I spent Juneteenth all day in the hot sun hoeing and pulling weeds and thinking about what it would have been like to have been a slave. At the end of the day, I thought about what it would be like to be an aborted baby. I got to see the sunrise and the sunset.
