Sounds like the DeathSantis / Dump split has begun. Dump is reportedly annoyed that DeathSantis has not yet declined to challenge him in 2024 and called him "dull". Ronnie is obviously not amused.

I'll get the popcorn for that one. Best case scenario here is that DeSantis out politics Dump and wins the primaries. Dump then throws a temper tantrum and runs as an independent.

The Dems will fuck that up, but its their best chance.

I think DeSantis can actually make a point to some of the R voters by calling Dump insane. He'll still push Jesus, Racism, and the like, but will rip on Dump while doing so. He can appeal to "level headed" (relative term here) R's.

Whether that spit in the party is enough to win is the question.

DeSantis' whole bit is he carries Dump's drool bucket around. His plot arc is Dump dies and he carries on The Great Man's Work. He will never challenge Dump because he knows the Dumpies will eat him alive.

Yeah you must be thinking of a different DeSantis. His only base are the crazies...he seems levelheaded compared to them because they are crackpots from Flo(R)ida. The dude is a RWNJ who wears nice suits and everyone knows it. He would have to run even farther crazy to beat Trump...up to an including using Trump getting the vaccine and booster to prove he is compromised.

Put it this way, no GOPer that left because of or voted against Trump is voting for DeSantis. Trump had the "outsider" appeal and could at least claim ignorance for his awful takes and policies. DeSantis runs the exact same policies and knows better. Him running on a campaign of sanity will die faster than Ted Cruz's resolve in a snowstorm. His only shot is to run the same type of campaign he would for re-election for Governor. Anti-Vax. Anti-Mask, Anti-CRT, Kill the Protesters, More Guns, Screw Women's Rights, Who Cares About Black People, Anti-LGBTQ, Voting is Bad and GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY. The only thing he won't do is tweet...

Even if I believed a candidate had any shot at all trying to run a campaign that was "sane" (the GOP would reject them because that isn't who they are anymore and they accepted that) DeSantis trying it would be a disaster because he has way too public a profile. He is not some unknown entity, he is the face of the Grim Reaper these days. The only ones who would buy it are Politico...who still probably think he won the Pandemic.

Agree completely. For the last 40 years, the only successful play in the GOP's playbook has been, "pivot right." The list of those who offered to govern from the center: Romney, McCain, Dole, even throw GHWB in there. All losers. The only realistic shot DeSantis would have would be to run to the *right* of Donald Trump, not as the candidate of sanity. Everybody who loved Trump could potentially be enticed to take a look at an even more extreme candidate. Not so for a centrist GOP candidate - that slice is way too small.

ATLANTA (AP) — Judges have approved a request for a special grand jury by the Georgia prosecutor who’s investigating whether former President Donald Trump and others broke the law by trying to pressure Georgia officials to throw out Joe Biden’s presidential election victory.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis last week sent a letter to county superior court Chief Judge Christopher Brasher asking him to impanel a special grand jury. Brasher issued an order Monday saying the request was considered and approved by a majority of the superior court judges.

The special grand jury is to be seated May 2 for a period of up to a year, Brasher’s order says.
