Yeah, I knew this would come up, but Catholicism is also about chasing the longest and thus most authoritative scholastic chain, like the Talmud or that word the Muzzies have for their scriptural provenance that I forget. Hadith? The one the schools kill each other over.

Partly that is Dominionism. These animals genuinely believe the 16th Century Wars of Religion are coming back and that they need the arms and tactical training to murder all the other faiths (and humanists, natch).

Partly that is the advance of the information economy. These losers used to be able to go into all the blue collar trades or at worst "menial labor." Take a look at the occupations listed on the census in 1900 or 1920. Anybody with a strong back could do those jobs, even a conservative. But come education and technocratization, there just isn't much work a Republican can do any more other than throwing some poor kid here (police) or over there (military) against a wall and cracking his back or raping her. Yeah, a few can throw ball real far, and a few can cheat the others at bidness or evangelism, but those slots are limited. The great sponges of mindless employment, farm and factory, are gone. The only work left for these people is state-sanctioned violence.

I consider that an unintended consequence of ending the draft. I'm not saying we should reinstitute mandatory military service, but there's no denying that the end of selective service and the rise of insisting that every 18 year-old with a pulse go to college or else YOU FAIL, has definitely made the military more politically insular and turned it into the default dumping ground for many Bubbas and Cleetuses in need of discipline and/or a quick ticket out of a sh*tty future in Bumblefart USA.

There is a serious argument that the only way to preserve democracy in America is to outlaw the GOP and declare any current member ineligible from voting or serving in government. I'd say they are CSA-level traitors, but the CSA still honored democratic elections.

You want to know why this country is fucked? republicans are not even bothering to say the quiet parts quietly anymore, and haven't for a long time.

They have really ramped it up post-1-6-21. Every purple state or county that normally leans red is their target now, and they are doing everything they can to steal elections. They have already corrupted most of the red areas effectively enough that the fascists have already won there. They know (and have said many times, often intentionally) that they can't win fair elections in a good portion of the country.

What has the other major party done to warn people or thwart these efforts? At this point, it is really the only thing that matters. Climate change, the economy, COVID-19, none of these things can be addressed once the fascists are in complete control.

Most of the coordination for the insurrection in January was behind the scenes or poorly thought out, scattered among groups of people who don't normally coordinate much of anything. It was still one of the more unfortunate days in the history of this country and did more damage to our democracy than a hundred 9-11s would have done. Now the republicans are looking for efficient ways to steal elections on election day itself and won't need an insurrection like we saw on 1-6.

This is why I wanted to see every mother fucking insurrectionist mowed down in a hail of gunfire on 1-6-21. If the fascists knew they were going to bathe the Capitol steps in their own blood and the people in this country who actually BELIEVE in democracy would go to any lengths to preserve it, maybe the fascists would go back into the shadows. Those people declared war on the country on January 6th. It's time we met that with the same response we have used any other time war was declared on this country. Frankly, the future of democracy in this country has been at greater risk only one other time, leading up to and during the Civil War.

The mostly likely outcome where we retain democracy without interruption over the next generation is dissolution. We have simply carried the losers for too long. Let them go, or go ourselves.

Unfortunately that would put a militant Nazi state right on our border -- a permanent, poor, authoritarian failed state. "When Alabama gets the bomb," as Tom Lehrer sang.

So I agree it's best we take care of the problem ourselves, but we must begin by unfucking our democracy and extracting the pincers of the vampire squid from it, and that is going to be a painful process. As long as the rich run things they will always give solace and support to the Right as their shock troops to keep us from ending poverty and ruining their feudal state.

I think the best plan is judo. Use the anger of the lunkheads to eviscerate what they think of as (((Wall Street))), then, having reclaimed democracy, immediately and ruthlessly drive through voting rights and democratization and reduce the Nazis to a permanent regional minority. If and when they go terrorist insurgency, eliminate them, no half measures.

So Alaska’s governor accepts Trumps endorsement contingent upon him not endorsing Murkowski. If Murky was smart, she’d endorse Dunleavy and force him to turn it down in front of all Alaskans.

Well, I guess technically she can endorse him as long as he doesn't endorse her.

She won’t endorse Dunleavy because Dunleavy is an unpopular doofus and would likely be an anchor to any reelection hopes.

(Also a good time to mention that our Governor race is going to be a s-show)
