No, I just think you're a good little german and I'm sick and tired of your ilk more than I am Trump and his. You guys sit by and watch our nation be torn to shreds by the latter and either shrug off or are entertained by. Even your casual use of "spectacle" really paints a picture of how serious you think this is. Like jesus fucking christ, what an indictment of you. THat you can't even be bothered to be upset watching women lose autonomy, the state establish a religion, and trump and the republican autogolpe their way into power.

But yeah, you keep going on the idea that I'm butthurt because you were mean. Kepler farted out posts* this morning that were far more clever and biting than you've ever managed to think up.

I like how you accuse me of sitting around and watching. So what exactly do you do? I've always loved how you guys log into a college hockey chat room, fellate one another for an hour or two, and you're suddenly Claus von Stauffenberg, declining the blindfold as you stand before the wall. I also think it's so cute when you cosplay your fantasy that you're standing alone on that darkened train platform, a single suitcase in hand, with all your worldly possessions, waiting for that last train out of America before it's overtaken by the Nazi hoard.

Of course, then you log off, go back to searching for a better adhesive for Post-It notes or driving forklift or tending bar or designing missiles or whatever it is you all do. Maybe start your summer vacation this weekend, or go camping, or maybe even catch a fireworks show.

Assuming we survive, it will have been fascinating to live through Germany in the early 30s to see how the dynamic worked. Republican voters are doing exactly what Nazi voters did. They have the same reasons, the same rationalizations, the same reactions. The US is conducting a realtime immersive social psych experiment on the Origins of Totalitarianism.

If we survive, historians, political scientists, sociologists and psychologists will never have to guess. They will all have impossibly detailed records of the slide of a free nation into authoritarianism. Who knows? Maybe we will learn enough to prevent it from ever happening again.
