The Frozen Four

Re: The Frozen Four

Can't argue that Hauser got away with not one, but two high stick or roughing calls. The only reason I can come up with is that neither of them involved a scoring chance, but the trip of Koalska did. Without the trip, he was gone. And like it or not, in overtime, the calls made will be few and far between.
I doubt any maine fan is bitter about that call, we're bitter about the lack of calls against Hauser shortly after.

Re: The Frozen Four

Apologize if this has already been posted, but there's a survey for FF attendees. Here's the email I got. Not a lot there that was exciting to me. One of the possibilities for future services that caught my eye was the possibility of ordering and receiving merchandise at your seat. Those lines are a pain. I also offered a suggestion (to be ignored, I'm sure) of allowing re-entry and leaving enough time between games so that we aren't forced to eat in the venue.

Hello Ice Hockey fan!

We hope you had a great time at the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship you recently attended.

In order to improve future events, the NCAA and Turner Sports Interactive are working with a market research company, Performance Research, to gather insights about fans' experiences. Could you help us by taking a few minutes to answer some questions?

Please click here or type the following address into your browser: www.prsurvey.com/feedback14 to access the questions.

We sincerely appreciate your help in creating the best possible NCAA championship experience.

If you have any trouble accessing the survey please e-mail Joe Perkowski at JoeP@PerformanceResearch.com. Thank you.

Just completed the survey. In the comment section I asked the NCAA that they no continue to treat those who go to the Frozen Four as children and allow beer to be served. We've gone over this countless times but the NCAA is beyond hypocritical on this, given that beer advertising is a major source of revenue for almost every college athletic contest that is televised. Don't expect much, but I figured I'd put my two cents worth in.

Re: The Frozen Four

I answered that survey; the only thing I asked for was more of the bands playing, and in Tampa, more organ playing. One of the reasons why I like the FF is there is no beer, like in heaven. I want to watch hockey, not get up for people going in and out of the row.

I was at that game in Worcester, where Walsh was tossed. I thought it was sad to see him go out that way.

I also spoke up in favor of beer sales. I also requested they fully staff the arena since concession lines were out of control between games with some stands closed.

Mookie too.
Suggested they close off fan zone and let us in there between games. At least we can beer up

Re: The Frozen Four

They don't at the Lax or CWS

Except that, outside the stadium, its a sea of alcohol sales at the CWS. Nobody going to a CWS game is wondering where, or, how close to the stadium they can buy alcohol. In fact, I've rarely even had to even pay for it at CWS games.

Alcohol is usually available near the FF also, certainly this year. The issue for me is the combination of no readmittance and no beer sales. Would be nice to be able to have a beer with that meal you're pretty much forced to eat in the arena.

Greatly appreciate the link; didn't receive the e-mail this year. Survey response sent.

Agreed. How the emcee did & What kind of feature stories should be on the video board aren't really on my radar.

One of the possibilities for future services that caught my eye was the possibility of ordering and receiving merchandise at your seat. Those lines are a pain.
Again, agreed. I suggested one wrinkle; prepaid orders submitted prior to the tournament. Show ID, pick up your package. Gotta believe that sort of line would move very quickly.

At the same time, I'm a little concerned by idea of having merchandise delivered to the seats. Would the vendors really limit deliveries to intermissions and stoppages? I have my doubts.

I also offered a suggestion (to be ignored, I'm sure) of allowing re-entry and leaving enough time between games so that we aren't forced to eat in the venue.
Definitely an uphill battle. If I understand it correctly, ESPN wants the short turn around time between games; the venues would rather not deal with pass-outs; and whoever is getting the food and drink $$ undoubtedly wants to keep that revenue flowing. In other words, it's the fans vs. everyone else. I'm guessing we'll continue to be on the losing end of that one.

It's a shame; I have fond memories of those between-games meals. This year we adopted the strategy of a large, late lunch. Didn't need much more than a snack at the Garden. Not ideal, but it worked OK.

Re: The Frozen Four

USUALLY (the Final Five being one of them) tourneys allow for smokers to exit and re-enter. It's usually limited to one exit, but there's no barriers/containment area for them. Lots of people *ahem* go out for a smoke, and come back in. Might be 30 minutes later, but they come back. Ushers will stamp hands in this case (to prevent handing off a ticket).

I know in Denver 2008, we left and came back, but don't recall if that was an allowed-re-entry situation or not.

Re: alcohol

While i like the occasional drink, count me as someone who has no problem with them not selling beer. In fact, i'm actually in favor of it. Maybe my perspective is clouded by the small minority of obnoxious drunks but so be it. I like the fact i don't have to worry about it during the games. I am there to watch hockey. Don't see why it's so important to serve beer.
