The Frozen Four

If you think this is pressure, you think about the fact that every night every NHL goalie feels the same pressure knowing that a poor performance is one bus stop back to the AHL. O’Conner isn’t an NHL caliber goalie and Gillies is. Period! The truth hurts!

Yet he still managed to beat Northeastern.

I did play at this level and while I agree with you all that it’s not completely his fault. The bigger issue is this these are not kids, they are grown men, most of whom, are far older and wiser than any avg. college students, as all have been playing competitive hockey for nearly 2 decades, devoting 20 to 40+ hours a week since they were 5, some for 9 moths or more out of every year.

This was a choke, and the truth is that your guy O’Connor let in a lot of bad goals this season, especially in big games this year but Jack and Rodriguez bailed him out, tonight they couldn’t.

I have degrees form both NU and BU and while its hard for you to swallow, you have to be honest and call a spade a spade a spade. These were not defensive lapses, these were 2 goals that any starting MIAA MA Varsity HS Hockey Goalie could likely have saved!

However, you add the pressure of a big game and this kid folded like a deck of cards on the strip in Los Vegas on any given Saturday night. That said, it's good for HE and college hockey in general that it's just not another BU or BC win. Nice job PC!

Were writing skills not required to obtain your two degrees?

Sounded to me like the building was all PC the whole way.

It was mostly polite cheering in my area. Fans of other schools were subdued until pc tied it up and then it was pc all the way.

I saw O'Connor interviewed on local news. He didn't go and hide, tough kid and like the UND goalie, he picked a bad game (s) to not have his best stuff.

The last FF in Boston, I was crushed so I know it feels.BU is back and will continue on at a high level.

Re: The Frozen Four

Here's what I saw was important- mistake recovery. Both made them, but imho PC dealt better.

PC made lots of mistakes that let bu put massive pressure on them, but the team delt with them well, and kept the goalie in the game.

BU made fewer ones, but let it get to them more, OConner's mistake being the most glaring. Instead of keeping their pressure peper shots, they let PC storm back into it, eventually leading to the game winner.

It was a team loss almost as much as it was a team win.

Re: The Frozen Four

...if you have any class at all, you just don't throw another player even an opposing player, under the bus at a low point...

Agree. Totally inappropriate and mean-spirited post. And this comes from someone who'll never be aboard any BU bandwagon.

I haven't gone into the UNH, UVM or NCHC threads......did he post it in there, too? I stopped counting after seeing it in four threads. He was on a bit of a copy and paste rampage last night.

Guess what? I went to bed last night, woke up, and the sun was shining. Can't be that bad when you wake up to a beautiful spring day. It was painful and will sting for a while, but I'm truly happy for the Providence fans I've known for several years. And BU raises five banners in the fall, so I can't complain. I can be bummed and disappointed, but I can't complain.

Scarlet - spot on. The Universe does not care.

Re: The Frozen Four

A couple of random things:

According to this morning's Globe, the two goals in four seconds beat the previous record (Michigan) by one second. Not sure this record can be beaten. I don't think you could possibly score more quickly unless you shot it directly from the faceoff.

The Nate Leaman coaching tree is looking pretty good, even though the protege won first.

This was the last hockey game of the season at the TD Garden. They have all summer to restore the logos under the ice and on the boards.

On the Boston sports scene it will seem really weird that the Celtics are in the playoffs and the Bruins aren’t.

See you all in Tampa.

Re: The Frozen Four

Was there an all tournament team? I've searched all the articles, even the Providence Journal and Boston newspapers. Zip. Nada.

Re: The Frozen Four

Wanted to comment on the PC winning goal, that was one hell of a set play. Brought back memories of Shermerhorn's goal that beat Michigan in the 3OT game back in '95.

Center wins the draw and then blocks off his man from getting out to the PC player with the puck. Meanwhile the left wing is doing the same on his man, and the puck carrier just pops over to the center of the slot and unleashes a bomb. Just a terrific drawn up play.

Re: The Frozen Four

What was the story behind the shift of the PC fans last night into what had been the UND section on Thursday night? Has the NCAA taken to pulling the fan section from the losing teams from the semis? (Not that I'd necessarily blame them, given how empty those usually end up being...)

I saw that as well. Perhaps those UND fans sold their tickets.

I doubt it, for the semi final the sections to the right of me were Jammed with pc fans. for the final those sections were pretty diverse With only the top part being pc fans. They must have moved people for some reason. I assume tv

Re: The Frozen Four

I think they flipped PC and UND, possibly to have PC fans on the side the TV cameras face? The section that was PC on Thursday seemed a lot greener last night.

Re: The Frozen Four

It would be pretty hard to flip the sections as most of the tix were sold as a 2 day set....best guess is the UND fans sold their tix and went home
