The Frozen Four

Re: The Frozen Four

The only snow left is where it is piled up from snow blowing. Otherwise, the lawn is all open now. I'm guessing May 1 we'll be on the links.... :D

May 1? Casual golfer!

I'll be on the links Sunday. Would have been out there this weekend but I had to work Good Friday.

Where? Any course I know of is under water now (and with rain almost every day this week it's gonna take some time).

The Cape courses are always the best early season. Widow's Walk in Scituate is SUPPOSED to open this weekend, so I may try that on Sunday. If not, it'll be a drive down to N. Falmouth.

16 is the lowest point on the course (until you get to about 130 yds from the green....always under water...in front of the tee is a quagmire). Maybe there are some REAL diehards that don't mind getting soaked, but I can wait another couple of weeks...
They'll open the front first anyway...no carts.

Are you nuts?!?!?

The ocean is still freezing which makes the cape the last place one want to play in April (all things being equal).
If it's 70 in Boston in April chances are it will be 50 on the cape due to the Southerly sea breeze

My roommate at BU was a caddie on the LPGA tour. We got to play New Seabury in October one year. It was FREEZING...and...the wind on the seaside nine was about 40 mph. We would hit driver into it and 9 iron with it for the same distance. As I previously mentioned...no thanks. I'll wait. :)

Dean Blais supplying bulletin board material here in the press in Omaha. These from tonight's pep rally/send-off of the team to Boston tonight:

Since he is the only coach at the FF that has won actual National Championships (plural) (and a World Championship, to boot) I guess he can pop off if he wants to, but, between this and his also saying that Massa "wants North Dakota bad" because McIntyre got NCHC Goalie of the Year, and Massa didn't, just adds fuel to the fire.

I sure hope Coach Blais knows or sees something here that has him confident enough to make remarks like this. I know this, I like it better than the standard canned cr*p that comes out of most coaches mouths in practically any and every other sport when their team is in a similar situation. A lot of coaches in this situation oddly seem to be scared of actually acknowledging that the goal here (pardon the pun) is to actually win the darn thing.

If this approach has our guys motivated and ready to walk over burning coals to get the job done in Boston, I'm all for it.

2nd edit:

Here is actual video of Coach Blais saying this at the pep rally tonight:

It's not about the weather, it's about the course conditions. The Cape is sandy so it drains faster and the courses are in much better condition early in the season. Many of them opened last weekend, while there was still snow on many Boston area courses. Put on a warm hat and sack up!
