The Denver vs tUMD 12/11 and 12/12

Re: The Denver vs tUMD 12/11 and 12/12

I would love to see Dylan Olsen and Wiercioch get in a fight on friday, then practice for the same team the very next day. :D
Dylan Olsen, Joe Colborne & Shawn Ostrow were all teammates on the Camrose Kodiaks. Jon Cook also played up there the year before Olsen arrived.

This is a hard series to predict. If DU can keep it low scoring, I think they have an edge.

it sounds like there is a lot of GOOD blood between these teams....D@MN!

I agree. UMD has slightly better offense (both teams have some experienced forwards, with UMDs being a little deeper), defense is pretty even but DU has the better goaltending (not that UMD's is bad, it's just that Chevy may be a difference maker).

On the really small ice at UMD, there is more contact/penalities and PPs are critical. The two teams' PPs are similar, but UMD has struggled a bit on the PK compared with Denver. That's a key for the Pioneers.

I think this series should be a split.

14ers really should come here again. He seemed to enjoy himself a bit.

Wish I could. I think my Curling Club membership is still good and I'd love to go for an Anchor Bar burger again!!! I'd probably skip participating the Sumo Wrestling this time around though (for Pioneer fans -- No, it wasn't a version of DU's Saturday night sumo). :D

I figured you guys wouldn't make it two years and row. Last year was great, but it won't be the same without you guys.

Denver fans are giving me more confidence. UMD can hang with the best and DU is not invincible. Plus we are at home which is always a boost. Cheap student tickets are gone. Hopefully that translates to other fans, hoping for a full rink!

I would have to agree with Swami's mathups. I'm looking forward to a pair of good games. Hopefully the Dogs can get on the board first for once, because I don't see us being able to climb the hill with Chevy in net. STUDENTS NEED TO BE LOUD AND GET ON HIM EARLY!!!! We need a solid weekend from our rotating goaltenders, less that 2 goals allowed either night, without that I doubt the Dogs will get a win.

I have always enjoyed the Denver series, Gwoz consistently runs a good program and your knowledgeable hockey fans have pride without being "gopheresque".

Let's repeat the championship game of last year's final five! Twice!

Now that the Gophers record is grotesque, their fans are less gopheresque. :)

I hate to say this, but he needs to get some experience sometime. Murray's confidence is probably like zero right now.

How about Lars Paulgård? :D

I gotta say this is my favorite team to visit the DECC. Denver has my 2nd favorite colors in college hockey. I just love their road uniforms, love that arched DENVER logo, and Boone!

Likewise, UMD is my favorite WCHA team to visit Magness.

Hope we get four points out of the weekend, but it is more realistic to split the series, DU winning Friday with Jesse Martin playing strong again and a loss on Saturday with UMD driving for a big win at home.

Re: The Denver vs tUMD 12/11 and 12/12

DU is a pure class program. I hope UMD can split.

I think UMD fans are genuinely hoping for a split and DU fans are trying to sandbag here :P DU is a much better team, UMD has been playing well above expectation.

I don't think we're sandbagging.

Almost every win except for the shutouts have been by one goal. DU has trailed in almost every win except the shutouts by a goal or more.

DU does just enough to win and splits against Vermont, UAA, Ohio State & SCSU doesn't exactly inspire confidence. I think a split would be a good result for DU considering its on the road and UMD is a Final 5 caliber team.

Vermont loss = Murray in net. Great Murray Experiment failure #1.
Ohio State loss = Murray in net. Great Murray Experiment failure #2.
UAA loss = Murray in net. Chevy hurt. Murray blows up thus officially ending The Great Murray Experiment.

SCSU Saturday loss. The whole team looked terrible sans for the last 5 minutes of the game. I doubt we will see that kind of lack of effort again the rest of the season.

See, still sand bagging!

DU is a team that doesn't blow anyone out, and often plays to the level of competition: 6-1-1 vs ranked teams. The Pios average only three goals per game, so if Cheverie is really on his game (94/96 saves%), DU is almost impossible to beat, but if Chevy is not as sharp, DU is very beatable. Friday nights, DU has been dominant - 7-1-0, but on Saturdays, 2-3-2.

DU is also 8-0-1 when leading after two periods. They are also 8-0-1 when they don't allow a PPG.

UMD is a team that has been good when losing after two periods and on the PP. Lets add some crooked numbers to the loss column this weekend :)
