Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Pool A Bids (7)
MIAC- St. Thomas (13-10-4)
MCHA- Adrian (24-3)
ECAC Northeast- Curry (19-8-1)
SUNYAC- Oswego (25-2)
NCHA- St.Norbert (21-3-3)
ECAC East- Norwich (23-1-4)
NESCAC- Middlebury (19-4-4)

Pool B (1)
Manhattanville (20-6-1) beat Elmira (18-8-1) for the ECAC West Title
I'm not quite sure how this goes? Someone please help me out.

Pool C Contenders (3)
Plattsburgh (18-5-4)
Gustavus Adolphus (19-6-2)
Bowdoin (19-6-1)
St. Scholastica (17-5-6)
Wisconsin River Falls (18-9-2)

Anybody want to take a shot at selecting all the teams and ranking them by region? I'm interested to see what people think. :D

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I've been working the phones. It appears all 11 teams are being sent to Placid.

Adrian gets a bye to the title game and the other ten will play a sort of "battle royale" to see who gets to play Adrian. All ten teams on the ice at the same time. It will be like chinese checkers...on skates.

So is the object here to toss your opponent over the boards and glass?

I think the RC deserves the double secret 12th bid. Most of you still have eligibility, no?

Bob Emery is NOT gonna like shaking that many hands, even if they are all coaches.

Yeah, we're not really sure. Consensus seems to be forming on M'ville based on previous years (a dangerous way to think).

I think if you scroll back a couple pages in this thread, you'll find what you're looking for (at least for the tournament teams).

I think we all have our years remaining. We have a short bench, however, but our SOS is huge this year. That said, we are hurting in secondary criteria as we flamed out late in the season.

When the AQ for drinking goes into effect in 2011-12 I think we'll finally get our shot.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Off the wall prediction

Pool B - Elmira
Pool C - Plattsburgh, Bowdoin, Manhattanville (Last team in)

First team out Gustavus - the committee will compare them and remember the ECAC West Champ is never left out. Since the comparison between Gustavus and Manhattanville is very, very close - the committee may look at the last 7 and see that M'ville is 5-1-1 and Gus is 5-2-0.

Even though it makes no sense, the committee sticks with regional matchups, and St. Thomas gets the Western bye. Norwich, Oswego, Middlebury, and Plattsburgh get the Eastern byes.

westscout's head explodes.

This maybe really naive, but GAC hasn't beaten anyone, really. (please someone correct me if i'm wrong)

The Pool B is comprised of teams from conferences that do not have an automatic bid for winning the conference tourney, which this year are the ECAC West and the MASCAC. The selection committee will choose from these teams for the allotted number of Pool B bids (one), and then (here is the key) any Pool B teams that are not awarded a NCAA selection are then "rolled over" into Pool C for a possible selection along with the rest of the at-large candidates.

Theoretically, the M'ville win over Elmira in the West title game could just as well be considered a regular conference game, since it does not result in an automatic bid. However, the ECAC West tourney champ has been selected for the NCAA tourney for a number of years now, to the point where it is essentially an autobid. Whichever of M'ville and Elmira that is not selected for the Pool B bid (probably Elmira) will then become a borderline Pool C candidate.

How many goals will be on the ice? the reg two with the goalies switchtng as to who is shooting and
what size of penalty box will there be?
gee there is just so much to consider! and
Where will the teams stay? I hear the Hotels are booked,
oh and what about practice time?
Well I kind of like that format
will NBC get the TV rights?
Gosh I haven't felt this tingle since Nov 2008
:D

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

And even SNC went 0-1 against a mid-tier Eastern team..and got shut out...
Based on this single result, on behalf of SNC I'd like to officially decline the invitation to play in this year's tournament despite the automatic bid.

Yes but you are only eliminated if both of your skates hit the floor on the other side. If you get flipped over but hang on to the top of the glass - you are still alive!

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Even though the selection does come out soon...or so it has been published that it would  I am just taking a stab at one off the wall prediction guess work from someone who has never done it...and a push to get "the best" to Lake Placid.

FIRST ROUND
St. Thomas @ Gustavus Adolphus
Adrian @ Manhattenville
Curry @ Plattsburgh

QUARTER FINALS
St. Thomas / Gustavus Adolphus @ St. Norbert
Adrian / Manhattenville @ Oswego
Curry / Plattsburgh @ Middlebury
Bowdoin @ Norwich

Tear it apart as you wish

Well, who do you consider "anyone"?

They went 19-6-2 and were only in the ncha-crossover for the first leg in the second weekend of the season.

If you want to go with that angle, has elmira beaten anyone of note since their second game of the season?

Elmira is the Honky Tonk Man of the NCAA tournament.

I was wondering if Hamline was considered a good team this year. And no, Elmira hasn't at all.
