Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

RIP Mr. Hockey. :(

Got to see him play with his boys in the WHA against the St. Paul Fighting Saints. Well past his prime, but still great.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

I just learned from a friend, and I'm taking his word on this, that Gordie only ever tallied two Gordie Howe hat tricks in his life. How was that feat named after him if he only had it happen twice during a career spanning more than 20 years?

As I understand it, it's not so much about the feat itself, as it is the style of play the feat represents. Howe was known for his ability to fight and play dirty in the corners, as well as his talent with the puck.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

History remembers him as such because, in large part, of the Gordie Howe Hat Trick that mysteriously has been attributed to him in his honour. Score a goal, assist on another and get into a fight all in the same game and you are said to be playing old time hockey like Gordie Howe. That's the way men should play hockey. And in the game of hockey, Gordie is the man.

But Gordie himself only had 2 such hat tricks.

True.

Even funnier? The all-time leader with 17 is Brendan Shanahan :D

Rick Tocchet has 18 if you count postseason.

He was the first, and still the greatest "power forward" in the game, and a complete gentleman off the ice.

Rest in Peace, and keep the elbows down. :(

George Voinovich, one of the last sane conservatives.

Dr. Mrs. tells the following story. Voinovich had a wicker chair in his office and he did all his meetings sitting in it. He was a very good guy. Very fiscally conservative, but eschewed the "blame the poor" hate they usually spew.
