Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

Yes, Knapp is out for the year, as is Bilko. OSU will have to go with three freshmen goalies.

They just won their exhibition game 2-0 over Wilfrid Laurier.

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

Yes, I heard Steffes did a great job in her 1st game. Heard she's the real deal.

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

With the season just about to get underway, time for the pundits on here to weigh in on the polls.

IMHO Big Red are the team to beat this year, finally bringing that crown east.

My Poll:

1 - Cornell
2 - Wisco
3 - UMD
4 - Hurst
5 - BU
6 - Minny
7 - Clarky
8 - Harvard
9 - ND
10 - BC
Any shuffling coming up after last weekend?

I think you may have Wisco more accurately placed than the USCHO pre-season poll, for one thing.

Yup, I would shuffle a few things based on the weekend results.

Top two stay the same. You need to move up Hurst, Minny and ND. Clarky and BU moving down.

PC, SU and BC not ready for top 10 based on results sofar. Quinny now to be considered.

Here is the updated poll IMHO

My Poll:

1 - Cornell (1)
2 - Wisco (2)
3 - Hurst (4)
4 - Minny (6)
5 - UMD (3)
6 - BU (5)
7 - ND (9)
8 - Harvard (8)
9 - Clarky (7)
10 - Quinny (NR)

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

That looks about right. :D
So, let's start some controversy.... :D

You lose one first place vote to Mercyhurst, who....fine....played very well against St. Cloud....but...

You also lost one first place vote to Cornell who didn't even play an exhibition game, while UMD played 2 exhibition games.

Somewhere, there's a pollster who had no other information to go on except for the two exhbition games, who decided..... nahhhh, they're not #1 after all!

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

I would expect Clarkson to garner some votes.

Having watched them this weekend, they will need to improve to be considered. One should note that they were missing their top Defenseman.
They are quite physical, but scoring will be the challenge

The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

My vote is obvious, but I'd be honest about it regardless. Last year I wouldn't have voted for the Bulldogs for the same reasons nobody else would have. But I like them this year.

Cornell had a hell of a run last year, but I like Mercyhurst in the east especially since they're hosting the Frozen Four this year. The title stays in the west this year. :D

Joseph: Respectfully-I think you wrong; this annum I venture the Champion will come from the East-like the sun does every day!

:D

Early on the East lays claim to the sun, but as time passes, it becomes obvious that it will return to the West.

Way too early but at this stage, talent wise, I would say it will come down to:

West: UMD, Wisconsin, Minnesota
East: Mercyhurst, Cornell, Boston University

Odds of one of these teams winning it all? My best guess: 95%.

Odds of a West team winning it again? My best guess: 70%.

I'll put those odds at 99% and 50% respectively.

Watch for some changes in my top 10 poll this week.

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

Second weekend of games in the books and this brings more movement in my poll.

Cornell stays top dog, until they hit the ice in two weeks and Wisco and Hurst keep looking good for the next two spots. No movement in the top four, lots of shuffling below it.....

BU and UMD swap spots. Both split with UND, BU has an extra win to claim 5th
Quinnipiac and BC moving up quickly, PC looking good as well.
Clarkson struggling and dropping out of the top 10.

Here is my personal poll updated.

1 - Cornell (1).....Yet to play.
2 - Wisco (2)......Another Sweep weekend
3 - Hurst (3).......Ditto like Wisco
4 - Minny (4)......Minny squeeked by Wayne state but hold onto 4th
5 - BU (6)..........BU moves up a spot courtesy their win
6 - UMD (5).......Slips below BU after a split weekend
7 - ND (7).........Splits with no 5 and no 6, so staying put at 7
8 - Harvard (8)...Yet to hit the ice.
9 - Quinny (10)...They are 4-0 and moving up
10 - BC (NR).......Couple of impressive road wins.

Honorable mention to PC knocking at the door.

Honorable mention to PC knocking at the door.
Not sure why they'd have more access to the door than OSU after losing to a team that the Buckeyes swept. There seems to be a reward for teams that started their season earlier. Although that breaks down in the case of Cornell -- must be an Ivy thing.:p

PC beat both Clarkson and SLU this weekend. Both teams on paper stronger than RMU. Teams that have yet to play maintain their relative rankings. That is the case for the two Ivies that are in the current top 10.

This poll will be very fluid until we get into the meat of the schedules.

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

I have a question about Boston University.....what exactly is it that has people excited about them enough to think they can win a National Championship? Or for that matter think they belong in the top ten? Just curious. I don't really know anything about them.
I noticed they split with UND their first weekend. Then a win over Division III Union College gets them moved up a spot.....
Are they getting a bunch of Olympians back, or what? Or are there just a bunch of Canadian and Mass. BU fans on this thread?

Re: The D1 Forum Poll - 2010 - 2011

Per Capitalist, "Division III Union College" Union College is D1 in mens and womans hockey. They do not offer scholarships but are still D1.

BU is considered one of the top 3 teams in the east by most pundits, along with Cornell and Harvard. They were voted favorites in the pre-season poll to win HE. They have several Olympians on their squad, along with a good recruit class.

This weeks Poll update post - Oct 18 Week 3

More movement after this weekends results. After the top two it gets interesting...

Hurst split, Minny lost twice to #7 UND, BU won twice, UMD won twice, ND swept #3 Minny, BC won twice, PC won twice, UNH won twice. Quite the log jam scenario, many teams with one loss. It illustrates the great competition we should see this year. Quinny drops a bit due to their split, so here is my poll for the week. Comments ?

1 - Cornell (1).....Yet to play, stay at number
2 - Wisco (2)......Did not play this week, stay at number 2, undefeated
3 - Hurst (3).......Split with the Beavers, But stay ahead of UMD and BU
4 - BU (5)..........Weekend sweep, pass Minny
5 - UMD (6).......Weekend sweep, pass Minny
6 - ND (7).........Sweep Minny to pass Minny
7 - Minny (4)......Drop below UND, UMD, BU
8 - BC (10).........Weekend Sweep to pass Harvard
9 - Harvard (8)...Yet to hit the ice.
10 - PC (NR)...Another great weekend by them.

Quinny drops out of the top 10.
Teams to watch knocking at the door...Ohio State and UNH

Your comment has BC ahead of Minn, but that isn't reflected in your ranking. On the basis of performance alone, BU and UMD deserve to be ahead of MC (both have a better "best win" and a less damaging loss.) Of course, this is a poll, not a computer ranking, so it will contain a greater amount of personal perception of a team's potential.
