The Completely Unofficial Pre-Pre-Season Polls - 2012-2013 Edition

Re: The Completely Unofficial Pre-Pre-Season Polls - 2012-2013 Edition

Charlie

My sister wants to know why Parents Weekend is on Columbus Day weekend? Pretty tough to get hotels that weekend with all the leaf peepers around.

Parents Weekend is always that weekend as long as the Football team is at home. Columbus weekend is traditionally the best weekend for foliage in Central Vermont - it was that way for as long as I taught there. I think the theory is to bring the parents to campus at a time at which the place is the most attractive. Many parents book their reservations as soon as they know the exact dates.

Re: The Completely Unofficial Pre-Pre-Season Polls - 2012-2013 Edition

Ok, so clarify something for me then Admiral...they started off 7-4-4 and mind you that was coming off a season where they had the best goalie in D3. So they had some sorting out to do at that spot. And I think once they put Jake in net problem was solved with a 14-1-1 run. So who can say they won 14 of 16 in the second half of the year...no surprise they ended up where they did. While I can agree with you on the fact they didn't play well early seems as though they were headed right where they finished once the change was made. Not bad for a freshman to be named the tournaments most outstanding player...just sayin. Losing only 3 seniors, it seems to me big things should be expected. Losing Ryd will be an adjustment but I think there are some good players in the pipeline to keep things at or near the top. Just my 2 cents worth...

I was never a big believer in carry-over rankings. As impressive as St. Norbert was in Lake Placid, for most of the season they were trailing a few teams in the polls. In otherwords, I don't think they played quite that good during the course of the season. Norwich and perhaps Oswego were probaby a better team at certain parts of the season. So no automatic #1's for me....it's a "what have you done for me lately" world.

...but they're certainly worthy of consideration.

Re: The Completely Unofficial Pre-Pre-Season Polls - 2012-2013 Edition

I guess I should've been more specific and said "from January 13th on" they trailed a number of teams in the poll. That's a pretty significant portion of the season that was done before their run. It's a wonderful team, no question. We've all seen what they are capable of in the big games. Do you think they'll be as hungry this year? Will they have significant injuries, etc...you don't know.
I have a lot of respect for their program. I'm just not ready to give them another crown just yet. There are a lot of good teams out there who are due.

Last year was definitely not expected for them...even Cogs said that last year during their run more then once. I think they will be as hungry, the kids definitely want to be back there again and the 3 seniors from last years team will be missed for various reasons but I think they left their mark and influence to continue to grow as a team just like they did through the course of last season. They meshed at the right time.
Time will tell as it always does, can't predict injuries. There are things to be excited about starting 2 weeks from today! Looking forward to seeing some kids on the ice that are new to the program or others that didn't have time on the ice last year.
No crown for anyone until its earned...yes, there are good teams out there no question!

Re: The Completely Unofficial Pre-Pre-Season Polls - 2012-2013 Edition

Anyone know when the USCHO poll will make its appearance?
I saw the pre-season poll last year was out on October 10th.

Thanks.
