The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

What part of that is compromising? Since he's gay this Collins dude isn't allowed to have a successful career? And you can't argue with the fact that what he did took guts.
Like dx said...saying "It takes courage and I wish him luck" is not what he was brought on to say. They knew his thoughts on it and put him on to share those thoughts. Whoever's brainchild that was, and the higher ups that OK'd it are the ones to blame here...

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

The whole Tebow thing and the Collins thing was like Christmas Day to the mothership. They didn't have to acknowledge the NHL playoffs. :D

(Like they would anyways.)

If ESPN wasn't going to acknowledge the NHL playoffs anyway, what difference did any Tebow or Collins news make?

As usual, your joke is a bad one. :D

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

I assume Chris Broussard has been just as vocal that extramarital sex is an "an open rebellion to God" - especially having children out of wedlock. Right?

I meant that even casual fans notice when ESPN scratches to put stuff above hockey on slow days. Even die-hard NBA fans are like "Wasn't there hockey last night?" This makes thing less obvious in the never-ending burial of the great sport of hockey.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

Yes, actually, he did.

Really? He accused about 99% of the league as committing an "open rebellion to God"? In those words? And all those players were cool with it?

Gosh, it's a shame someone so pure has to make his living surrounded by all those people who hate God so much. You'd think he would put his considerable talents to use in another line of work where people are more accepting of his religion.

ETA: Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Lots of today's problems can be traced to kids born/raised in single parent households.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

ESPN apologizes:
"We regret that a respectful discussion of personal viewpoints became a distraction from today’s news," the statement said. "ESPN is fully committed to diversity and welcomes Jason Collins' announcement."

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

ESPN apologizes:

ESPN put him out there knowing what his opinion was and knowing what he would say. They wanted him to say it because it meant friction and increased ratings. For them to now apologize is laughable. For them to go any further is contemptible. I disagree with what Broussard said, but if ESPN knew what his opinion was and they didn't like it, they shouldn't have asked him.

Or it was a setup to get him sacked, sort of like what MSNBC did to Michael Savage when he hosted The Savage Nation way back when.

Yawn, so a pampered multi-millionaire jock "comes out." So what? I'm really looking forward to the "stop the presses" moment when the first gay taxidermist "comes out." Boring.

Taxidermists have been out for years. Get with the times old man.

Chris Broussard's apology on twitter:
Today on OTL, as part of a larger, wide-ranging discussion on today’s news, I offered my personal opinion as it relates to Christianity, a point of view that I have expressed publicly before. I realize that some people disagree with my opinion and I accept and respect that. As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA. I believe Jason Collins displayed bravery with his announcement today and I have no objection to him or anyone else playing in the NBA.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

I don't know why they allowed personal opinions of their analysis to become part of the discussion. Mistake in my mind.

Re: The "Complain About ESPN" Thread

You know what ESPN is? The Bleacher Report on TV...

I mean, this isn't a revelatory notion about ESPN, but this whole Tebow and coming out thing just reminded me of the above article.

This is pretty ****ing if you ask me. I'm sure real sports fans would want the SportsCenter of the mid 90s, where it was straight hi lights, analysis and the anchors didn't get in the way or become the story. I wish someone from NBCSN or CBSSN or the new Fox Sports 1 would just do a straight old-school SportsCenter.

The Lights on NBCSN is the best I've seen. Other than when ESPN has a live sporting event I'm interested in, it's completely obliterated all of my needs to ever tune into an ESPN network.

The problem is the debate, whether its about a gay basketball player or Tim Tebow or whoever, is what gets eyeballs, as much as it annoys so many of us, we are not the bottom of the sports world, we are the cream we want facts and highlights...The problem in this day and age is you can get those things with a quick search on the internet so why wait for sportscenter? People tune in to get more...and its frustrating to all of us here...
