What you are saing if half of what I was suggesting. The other half is that if as you wrote NMU has an Alternate Belt from beating say LSSU in shootout, then if say the next week BGSU beats LSSU they won't get a second Alternate becuase the shootout Alternate is already somewhere. A problem would occur however if there was then a shootout in an in-season tourney since that could be considered different from CCHA shootouts.

I think that if you allow an alternate CCHA belt in case of a SO win by the non belt holding team that if there was a belt up during an in-season tournament then an alternate belt should be awarded for a SO win by the non belt holding team.

My opinion is that a belt is up for contention every time that the belt holder plays a game. The fact that an alternate already exists should not preclude a team that claims "victory" by winning a shootout from becoming an alternate belt holder.

Amen to this. Eventually, the belts will merge at the end of the season (unless, of course, either UAH or a team in the basement of Hockey East is holding it at the end of the season).
