The best NCAA Championship by a league (ever)....

Re: The best NCAA Championship by a league (ever)....

So, what some folks are saying is that Yale has never knocked on the door.
Now, they just show up and smash it off it's hinges. Impressive. ;) :D

[In response to the anonymous "they" bragging about being "The best . . . league (ever) . . . "]

Who's "they?" The ECAC is an "it," not a "they." Confusing individuals (often fanatics) with institutions creates unnecessary mischief.

How about "best NCAA Championship representation by a state since 1978"?

See, 30 seconds of research to substantiate a wild claim before making it publicly can save quite a bit of embarrassment later....

Now, I'm pretty sure Qp and Ylae are in the same county too but I don't know if Boston and Chestnut Hill are in the same county or not, so I'm holding off on that claim for now.

They are not.

Quinnipiac is very committed to hockey. They will be around for a long while. This tournament will help their recruiting. And there are some very good teams in the ECAC, besides Yale.

I only hope the ESPN rubes up the road a few miles in Bristol will learn take the time and effort to learn how to pronounce Quinnipiac correctly. They embarrass themselves. They seem to be as lazy as the Washington media in their lack of attention to detail.

And you WCHA fans, loosen that sphincter and relax and enjoy the tournament. Q couldnt have made it to Pittsburgh without western Canada and Minnesota talent. We respect your hockey heritage.

Looking forward to some great matchups next year.

Well said, Treerat.

[Boston and Chestnut Hill] are not [in the same county].

OK, thanks for that information. The CT papers all have headlines about "the champion of Whitney Avenue." Not only are Qp and Ylae in the same county, the same street runs right past both campuses too.

I've never been to Ingalls but the TD Bank athletic complex is pretty nice.

When was the last time that that two teams in the NCAA finals last battled in the consolation round (3rd place) of their league championship? Speaks volumes to how tough the ECAC was this year.

Re: The best NCAA Championship by a league (ever)....

It is a great year for the ECAC (long time coming) but one year does not make you a dominate conference. You need to prove it over 5, 10, 15 or twenty years. ECAC has been an easy team to beat in the NCAA's. But we might be seeing more parity in college hockey where the gap between conferences is shrinking.

Hockey east did the same in 1999, Maine beat BC and UNH for the only losses for the league, went 6-0 outside the league, three teams made the frozen four, and any one of those three teams would steamroll the field today.... Having an all league frozen four (wcha) is more impressive than both....

Well put

I will say that the tournament this year shows the value of avoiding first round conference matchups. Yale, as the last team in, normally would have played Q, the #1 seed, in the first game. I just think that's kind of funny that they now are playing for the championship.

Re: The best NCAA Championship by a league (ever)....

Well congratulations to Q and to Yale and the ECAC in general. I think you earned your wins and are the two best teams this year. However, most leagues are pretty much even now. I don't think, with the exception of the bottom of Atlantic hockey, you can say one league is better than another one, most of them are about the same.

I mean, BU and BC are closer, geographically, and also along the same street (so the Battle of Commonwealth Avenue is not a misnomer). But most of BC is just outside of Suffolk County (there's a part of it in SC, which leads to the debate over whether or not BC is in Boston or not).

It's a fair point, but a bad example.
Yale, as the number 15 seed, played Minnesota, the number 2 seed. That was completely by the numbers.
Yale was the last team in, but Canisius was a lower seed.
