Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13
I will say this just as a bit of counterpoint, and keep in mind I just saw it on B2, not in-person.
I think NMU was dominating the 1st period. They had more possession and seemed to know where Western was going to go with the puck. 1st Western goal was off a poor turnover when the D-man tried to skate the puck out of the zone instead of passing it. Second goal was a PP deflection that went off an NMU player. Neither of those are high percentage saves, but I'm sure every goalie wants every goal they give up back.
NMU's 2nd goal was huge to say that they weren't going to allow one turnover and a bad bounce to doom their night. They took care of business and took the bounces out of the equation. Nice job by Ray Kaunisto using the body but not taking penalties. NMU also didn't get caught up with silly hooking or interference penalties.
Now it is time to go out and finish this series, unlike they were able to do against BG.
