The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

In what comes as no suprise, Brian Stewart is named CCHA Goaltender of the Week for stopping 94 of 97 shots against Ferris; allowing the 'Cats to take 5 of a possible 6 points.

Doubt it. ;)

- Me, last weekend.

It'd just be like Western to pull out 2-4 more wins just to make the season look like something other than complete failure.

nmu_27, hockeybando, and I couldn't believe the score when we heard it on Saturday. Wonder what got into Western this past weekend.

Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

Is it Friday yet? Not usually a big fan of the shots on goal number but I think it will go a long way in determining NMU's success against Gill.

There was a pretty big discrepancy in shots on goal for NMU from Friday to Saturday. I wasn't paying attention to how well FSU was blocking and defending shots; but the 'cats went from an attempted 66 shots Friday to just 31 for Saturday. Ferris attempted 67 shots Friday and 81 attempts for Saturday.

That is quite the difference and without seeing Friday's game I cannot draw an accurate conclusion other than the hometown scorekeeping was a little zealous in trying to put on a good show for FSN Detroit. I'm all for our opponents making our numbers look better though.

DavyD, or anyone who watched both games, did both teams look that completely opposite the following night?

I think he's used to facing 40+ shots per night now.

I don't. Nothing against the players on the team, but I want Kathy to be forced to show Culhane the door ASAP. Any little success might temp her to let him see the final year of his contract and I don't want to see that happen.

When can we talk extension?

I'm already terrified that 8 wins would be enough for that. Double digits and I might vomit.

My guess is she gave him the standard five year extension last summer and will announce it before the season ends. All he needs, after all, is a nice arena to become coach of the year and the new arena is in the works.

Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

Obviously along one side is the student section, where you wouldn't want to be. The other side I believe is mostly season ticket holders. My guess is the ends will be where the most tickets will be available.

My best tickets at Yost were on the same end where they put the visitors, but were centered behind the opposing goalie and closer to the ice.

Note: If you go to U of M's online ticket purchasing site. Where they put opposing fans is up in the corner of section 11. The best seats I've gotten were closer to the ice in section 10.

As an aside, it is also fun to bring a plastic horn to Yost and make loud noise every time NMU scores.

I went online looking for tickets a couple days ago. The UM site said no tickets available. I was ready to make the trip.

It is EXTREMELY easy to get tickets outside the stadium. I'd still make the trip if I were you. Also, check the ticket sites. Your best bet is outside the stadium though. If you wait until about 5 minutes before the puck drops you can score great deals.

I just got this information from my sources:

If you know anyone who needs tickets for the U of M games in Ann Arbor, have them call the NMU ticket office because Michigan sets aside a block of tickets for purchase by NMU fans and then the ones that don’t sell are returned to Michigan and sold at the door. I don’t know the supply right now but they usually go quickly.

Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

The fact that fans are looking straight past Western has me worried that the team might be doing the same :(

This will be a major issue that I hope Walt has been addressing all week... It can't be stated enough that Western can be a very dangerous team and they can steal W's... There are 6 crucial points on the line THIS weekend... Worry about Friday, and then start worrying about Saturday around 10:30pm Friday night... Right now, each game is just as important as all the others...

Oh, I wasn't at all. I just got that info and wanted to pass it on because I know the topic of going down there has come up. Believe me, I'm not looking past WMU one bit.

Re: The Battle of the Michigan Directional Schools 2010--Western @ Northern Feb 12-13

I know, Western is dangerous especially Greg Squires!!! That little guy is one of the most underrated skaters in the league. He can pick apart a loose defense with his passing skills. He is a treat to skate with and watch! I'm hoping Northern plays better when they play teams their supposed to beat like Western. Its seems like since '99 they always have a series or two where they get beat by teams they shouldn't lose and lose their opportunity to move onto the NCAA tourny.

I'm looking past them. I'm not going to lie. I can't wait to play Michigan next weekend.
