The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

I had been very critical of Red in the past for Too Many Men penalties, so I suppose its only fair for me to be upset with Barr for the same. They disgust me to my core, and UNH used the opportunity to tie it up.

Women's team thumped NH this afternoon, 5-0. Hopefully they can galvinize the men to a similar performance in the evening.

Suspect the UMaine Women probably would have given the UNH Men a better game tonight.

As I said in the UNH thread, two very flawed teams, a split weekend shouldn't surprise anyone.

With 4 regular season games left, at this point I'd say just ride it out till the end. This team will look completely different next year and will perform much better.

Also, I must add, the fact the team was the least penalized in the nation (before this weekend anyway) was a huge benefit. This team being penalized at the rate of the last few years with this year's penalty kill would probably result in them being winless.

Unh is more talented than maine, your in a better position this year. Unh could do alot of good things maine normally cant do, like break the puck out, skate the puck into the offens zone, cycle it along the boards. All maine could do was dump it in and chase it back out. The d breakout was nothing but chipping it out to unh or try to force it up the boards, or just turn it over in the d zone. I cant wait, hope, until Barr gets this team to a point where they can break out from the d on the weak side and skate it into the offens zone without dumping all night long.
I Sound like a broken record.

This entire weekend was completely irrelevant.

A split between the two nowhere programs was fitting.

Perhaps next season will be different; we'll see.

Agree that UNH had more skilled players than Maine. Maine played a physical game and Ostman kept Maine in the game for awhile. Maine was gassed at the end with their aggressive puck chasing and UNH eventually wore them down. Penalties also killed them with UNH scoring 3 PP goals. The goal by Gagne was an absolute bullet. His first of the year.

I thought the weekend was very encouraging. It was nice to see a mostly full house, Maine score some goals, and I thought overall Maine played really hard. Completely agree with Runsub that they just ran out of gas in the third last night. To play as well as they did without Sirota is a major accomplishment as well.

To what Blackbears19 said yesterday I think Maine def has a shot at making the tourney in a couple years. There is so much parity though I could see Maine in the mix but not quite get there. There is a huge amount of luck involved.

I’m excited about Maine’s class coming in but realistic that there will probably be some disappointments in there. For me the biggest key is finding some guys who can put up 25 or 30 points in a year versus 10 or 15. There are a lot of guys who have the tools but the end product just isn’t there.

With Maine coming into the weekend being one of the fewest penalized teams in the country, it's obvious to me that Barr changed his game plan. He must have realized that playing a physical puck chasing game was a possible way to win against UNH. It worked in spades on Friday night! Very uncharacteristic for Maine to play that way under Barr this season. UNH was ready for it on Saturday and turned the table. I applaud Barr for making a change in his game plan. The problem was Maine couldn't control their physical play and it lead to too many penalties. I don't think Gendron ever changed his game plan against an opponent.

If ever an opponent program has historically been susceptible to physical play, it's UNH.

Barr outcoached/out-prepped MS7 in Friday's win, UNH was ready for it Saturday. You nailed it.

Maine deserves to lose. Stupid penalties. How can they be one of the least penalized teams when they take so many dumb penalties? They always seem to have someone in the penalty box.

Wasn't watching, but saw in the boxscore both Houle and Hebert have 15 min in penalties? Did we somehow manage to take two majors in one period? What the heck happened to this tean?
