The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

I’d like to comment on something here but everyone and his brother and sister and illegitimate child has already explained why Barr will do just fine and why Chuck is still nothing more than another sissy wearing UNH panties :D. Same old chit no ? Yaughn

Not going to say much aside from this: don't expect a sea-change this year in regard to Maine.

This forum-format is a complete shit-show, but I seem to recall someone opining that one Junior League or another bleeds talent up to D-1... Nope.

I follow D-3, which also takes the USPHL (or whatever the fuck it is) leftovers, and every other league's leftovers. Some guy might rack up 65 points in 35 games there in a given year, and still produce nothing at the next level.

League affiliation doesn't seem to matter much. The calculus changes radically every year.

I search Twitter for "Maine Hockey" maybe once a week in-season to check in and see if anyone nationally has mentioned the team, obviously in a down year it's essentially a zero...BUT it feels like Barr / Fortier / Alfie are pulling multiple recruits a week. Perhaps it's a renewed interest in the program, but it doesn't feel like Gendron did that...ever.

Obviously talent will be interesting to see when they get to Orono, but Barr is pulling kids left and right. For me, that's encouraging.

It seems to me that he has done really well with dmen, good with forwards, and the goalies are kind of a wildcard. Neither goalie has done much this year which is a bit of a concern. The biggest need I see is one or two really high end forwards.

The most telling thing for me tonight was after the first period NEU had 17 shots on goal and Maine didn't have one block. Need a lot better effort tomorrow night.

One for those folks who were on here talking about how good Sacred Heart is, they lost 4-1 to Niagara at home tonight.

Sacred heart isn’t good. Maine is much worse. Get some of these old d men out of the lineup. Wow. We also have no offence.

Last nights game tells you how little talent this Maine team has, NU was so much faster. Trying to figure out where anyone said Sacred Heart was "good" only that they were better than Maine. Hopefully tonight Maine can slow them down but a Maine win or even a tie would be a miracle

Rebuild is tough to watch, at first.
This is the 84 and 85 seasons all over again. 12 and 11 wins, then 24 in 86 then BANG!
But, Maine most likely will not even get to 11 this year.
Baby steps, though the process is much harder now. Much harder…

Mulera in for JSS tonight. It seemed like he was a bit of a lucky charm last year and hopefully that holds true this year as well.

Maine needs a respectable performance tonight regardless of the result. Something like a 5-3 loss would be wonderful.

Maine’s best period of the year, Suthers looks like he’s getting better and more comfortable every game. If they play like that for the rest of the game, Barr might get his first win tonight

Regardless of what happens in the third period this has been a massive step forward. This might not be the greatest Maine team ever but it’s not like they’re horrible. Would be nice to see them hold on in the third.

One thing I love is how the team has dramatically improved on Saturdays compared to Fridays. Shows that the coach is able to adjust and make changes needed to counter the other team.
