The Barr Has Been Raised at UMaine

This AD hire is critical for hockey. It has been many years since things got lined up well like recently for hockey in AD, coach and some cash for facility improvements. The wrong AD hire could set things back or worse just send things off on a course to the next solar system.
I'm actually concerned about it, well as concerned as much as this sort of thing deserves.
It seems the U has no clue how to hire an AD so they are looking for a recruiting agency. It sounds like this is becoming more common practice so maybe a good move. Hopefully better results from a recruiter than the president hire for UMA.

UNH just went through an executive search/recruiting agency, I'm not sure it's a great idea ...

Umaine earlier this year used an agency to recruit the umaine augusta president, complete botch job.
The U is apparently on the hook to pay the guy several hundred thousand dollars, up to +600,00 is one number I heard. The guy didnt even take the job.

I absolute see the cause for pause with this hire. Having Ralph leading the search would be an indicator that they would want someone who shares the same vision as the coaches they have recently brought in.

That also makes me think it will make it less likely that the U tries to play it safe by luring someone like Cosgrove back from Colby which would be a clear sign that hockey will be in the rear view going forward and not something we'd want to see. I can't shake the thought that he would be on the short list though...
 
Pretty scummy to announce no masks a few days after the deadline to renew season tickets. If that’s the direction they want to go fine, but don’t hold the information back.

I think you’re reading into this. Tbh, I thought the mask mandate at UMaine had already been lifted.

I went to Providence and Merrimack last year to see games and they weren’t requiring masks. The website said that masks are welcomed but not required. At this stage of things, seems like that is the status quo. Not much to see here.

So, you didn’t want the mask mandate and refused tix in protest only to find out no mandate…
Or, you wanted the mask requirement
and are upset they aren’t mandated now that you purchased?
IOWs, what’s the scummy part?

I can see arguments for and against a mask mandate and am not sure what the right way to go is. My beef is that they made the announcement right after the deadline. BlackBear19 could be correct that it was just coincidence but I doubt that.

Agree. FWIW, after 36 consecutive years of season tixs, I declined this year. Has nothing to do with masking, but the lack of entertainment.
Make me WANT to go, not HAVE to go.
That simple.

We probably wouldn't have renewed if we hadn't paid off our wedding vendors early which freed up some funds.

Still think the team needs a bit more stability in net but I saw enough on the ice last year to make me want to at least come back to see how the team develops.
 
We finally got an ‘06! Ryder Shea, a goalie from Framingham. It sounds like he is the most promising goalie recruit since Swayman. Hopefully Barr can get some more 06’s soon. It’s been disappointing he hasn’t done better with that year so far.

Clearly Ben doesn't know what he's doing!! Or his staff!! They need to get on the stick tout de suite! If he doesn't have at least 5 of the top '07's ready to go on Aug. 1 next year, he should be fired!!!!!!!

UMaine men’s hockey team lands 16-year-old from Ontario

The University of Maine men’s hockey team has landed a 16-year-old playmaker who will join the program later this decade.

Nick Wellenreiter, who had 54 assists along with 14 goals in 77 games for the Bishop Kearney Selects 15-Under AAA team last season, has verbally committed to attend the University of Maine. He will be a scholarship player.....
