The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I'm a little alarmed at how unclassy this thread has gotten.

i know it..............for the love of God i do not understand how anyone can use Travis Roy in any sort of a joke. It is beyond sick and those who do should be ashamed of yourselves and should be banned from these threads...............forever

I would imagine a "your priest touched you" chant towards a Catholic school would be on the same level as making Travis Roy taunts/comments. Maybe both should be refrained from.

As a Northeastern Alum and Proud early member of the Doghouse, we hated when some freshman or bandwagon fan made any reference to Travis Roy jokes. We did some pretty classless (and funny) things back in the day (just ask UNH fans who Katy did, :D), but Travis Roy jokes were something we hated and tried to stop when some clueless idiot made some kind of sick joke at that. It was never OK in the minds of the Doghouse.

I love the people on here trying to compare a stupid, unnecessary chant about priests at a hockey game to comedians using the same material. The two aren't even close to the same thing.

If you think that chant is funny, well, I don't know what to say.

So it's OK for a comedian to make a joke about it to a national even international audience, but it's not OK for a student section to make chant about it. That's messed up. If you have a probelm with it, you can't say it's OK for this person to do it but it's not OK for this person to do it. If you're going to make that distinction, it will continue to be made fun of because you're an idiot. I wouldn't have a problem if you were against even comedians making jokes, but this makes you hypocritical.

I wouldn't go that far. I think those are two totally unrelated topics and I don't think that there's any way to compare them.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Nice thread we've got going here. Nice job folks!

Seeing the fanboys get all excited about the molestation jokes and defending it reminds me of the scene in Road Trip when the skinny kid goes, "You know, because it's YOUR dog, get it?"

Although I don't go to a Catholic school, I am Catholic, and I can assure you those two are not on the same level. The priest jokes... yeah, they bother me, but I find it kind of easy to just ignore them and not let them get to me. Travis Roy jokes make me legitimately upset. If I ever heard someone say some of the things I've seen posted in person, I'd probably punch them in the face.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Religious jokes/chants about things like that at games cross the line. Do you think it would be cool to make anti-Jewish remarks if you were at a game at Brandeis University? I think the point is for a lot of people, chanting "your priest touched you" is the same as others making chants about Roy, etc to someone like you. Like I said, I have never heard a Roy-type chant anywhere (thank God). I have heard 'priest molestation' chants, ironically only by BU fans. It would be fabulous if BU fans had enough class to see this.

Oh, I totally agree that it's a stupid and classless chant. I cringe every time I hear it. I was just making the point that, at least for me, it's not on the same level as some of the Travis Roy remarks I've seen. That doesn't mean I think it's OK, though.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I just think the "filter" on some BU fans doesn't work, that's all. I know the hatred towards BC from BU fans is tremendous, but I do honestly wonder if the Roy were a BC player and not BU if some of the lowest common denominator BU fans would say something about it. Sadly, I think they would.

Some of the lowest common denominator BC fans, including at least one regular BC poster on here, have said stuff about Roy. There are always going to be worthless human beings who make remarks like that, regardless of what school they're from. I'm 100% sure that the vast majority of BU fans would realize how distasteful that is, just like the vast majority of BC fans do.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I'm looking forward to the effective 3 game series vs. BC. It's going to be UGLY by Saturday at Matthews which will be sold out.

By sold out you mean rows upon rows of empty seats in the lower bowl like October?

I was shocked how many no shows for a season opener against the defending champs/#1 team

It's not a religion joke; It's not saying "your beliefs are pure wrong!" or "your people are (insert noun here, as a Jewish joke would go)" because they're based on stereotypes (or things that didn't actually happen). It's based on something that happened, and something that was never resolved. And, for that reason, the jokes continue. Simply put, the best way to stop the jokes is to stop molesting little kids.

Do you live under power lines?

In a nutshell, you think the jokes at BC fans are fine because comedians do it (although they do it cleverly and make fun of the church rather than the victims) and because BC is Catholic even though BC has nothing to do (as far as we factually know) with the widespread scandal.

So... naturally you think it makes sense to chant "your priests touched you" to students, who might not even be Catholic, that attend a Catholic school. Nevermind the fantastic work BC has done to fix and address issues in the Church with their lauded Church in the 21st Century center.

Got it. Makes perfect sense now.

Please tell me you're not serious. This post and this train of thought is so beyond stupid and so beyond ignorant, I don't even know what to say.

Fed, THIS guy is the type of guy I am talking about. You are in the minority with this type of thing, but this clown's attitude seems to permeate throughout that fanbase when it comes to class.

I mean the student section. As for the alumni, they wanna be lame, fine.

No Roy chants, but you must have missed the Northeastern kids overtly making train sounds at the BU section in 2005 shortly after two BU students were killed by an oncoming train, or in 2007 where they screamed down to us at Matthews asking if we'd rather die in a fire or get hit by a train, shortly after two BU students were killed in an apartment fire. Classy.

I would agree that's pretty weak. NU usually has more creative chants than that. I guess with that extra year of school required there to get a bachelors they have more time to work on their craft. :)

Can somebody find Theissen'sBetter and have him/her delete this thread?

TB, if you read this, I promise to somehow get the money for at least one beer to you if you put this cesspool out of its misery.
