Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

You're not looking in the right places. I can think of at least one (because they post the price by the roadside) that never hits 3 digits. Right on Rte 3 into Bar Harbor. I'm sure there's several others.

Yes, I know the places you mean. I always liked the Bar Harbor weekend nightlife, so getting a room on Main St. in August goes to about 105/night if you are lucky enough to find a cancelled reservation, plus I always take a huge dog along for hikes. The further up Main St. you go, the better odds. Not bad if you would rather not drive, the rooms are better than anyone would expect - not like the Hampton Beach motels :D

I would assume that Maine has a student bus going down tomorrow? Hopefully two or three.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

So that's the place. A friend wanted to see that place and we walked all over Chinatown hitting every place except that one.

It's nowhere near Chinatown! It's in the neighborhood of the Garden.

Some playful predictions!....

I saw the e-mail about the banquet. I've never been so I don't remember how many of these types of awards get given, but if any of the following "typicals" go, I assume this is how it will look.

Player of the year: uhh, derrr???

Rookie of the year: Shemansky

Most Improved player: Dee, or a long shot senior guilt award to DeKastrozza, but Dee deserves it more.

Academics: Carierre

Defensive forward: Andersson

Offensive defenseman: Dimmen should beat out O'Neill in a squeaker

Defensive defenseman: We have one? :p Had he not missed so much time, it would have probably been Banwell. Nemec and Cornell WILL eventually be solid and consistant D DMen but neither of them were good enough for an honor. Van Dyk by default?

Any kind of character/sportsmanship award is apt to go to House.

Onto the game....I said in the game thread, Maine won't play poorly, but Wilson lets one in early in the first and they just struggle to find momentum. 3-1 BU.

Nyquist? I don't think he'll be an immediate sign on. They'll name House the captain once again with Dimmen AND Nyquist being the alternate captains of next years team....and then he'll go all Jimmy Howard on us and break out hearts over the summer.

Offensive good news going forward? I think Abbott, Dee and Diamond are going to explode next year, and it sounds like Anthoine should make an impact as a freshman.

I think it was just one bus for both students (65 bucks) and other fans (72 bucks). It sold out on Tuesday.

Jeez, if it sold out Tues, I would think they would try and fill another one.

Reflecting back a little on the season. Just imagine how different the PWR would be if we'd managed a split with Union. Goes to show how much every game matters, no matter if it's in October or February. The make-up of college hockey is such that the so called "cupcakes" on the early schedule are now more and more TUC's. There is no such thing as an easy OOC schedule anymore. That early in the season you can't predict who's gonna be ther at the end. Overlooking a team can come back and bite you in the arse. Maine is a prime example of thet this year.

I totally agree with that. Who knows what happens if you translate many of the bubble teams' results just changing their worst loss to a win. BU's two losses to PC stand out to me.

Your two losses to PC don't hurt as much as your record against UVM. If the Terriers went 2-1 against UVM instead of 0-2-1, I believe a few comparisons would be flipped. I could be wrong as I am not a Pairwise expert, but that is what I believe to be the truth.

Concord Trailways is convenient and easy from Bangor to South Station. My dad usually takes the bus down, and I meet him down there. It works great.

If they had split with Union, they'd be 15th instead of 18th. Northeastern would momentarily be the 25th TUC, but that would change if RIT won this weekend. UHN would thus be 11th.

If BU had won one against UVM they'd now be 14th.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

Nyquist is one of 10 Hobey finalists.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

All Hockey East First Team, Gustav Nyquist. Unanimous selection.

He was runner-up to Bobby Butler for Player of the Year.

Also, Jeff Dimmen named to the second team and Brian Flynn named honorable mention.

Runner-up for coach of the year: Tim Whitehead:p

Interesting that Nyquist was the only unanimous selection for first team yet gets screwed out of POY.

The league wants to boost them both for Hobey. If Nyquist is POY that hurts Butler.

Of course, neither one of them is going to win.

I have to agree with you about Dee...I was just reading some scouting reports back from 2005 where he was one of the better HS players in Minnesota. He started to show his potential that I read about this year. Hopefully his progress continues.

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

I'm sure you'll all be happy to know that Maine great Paul Kariya picked up his 400th career goal (and 983rd point) in tonight's game against the Rangers.
