The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Considering they were supposed to be in last place in Hockey East, I doubt the PWR was chief amongst their concerns last October. Two wins over ECAC teams don't help the worst team make the Hockey East playoffs.

So in other words, we can blame the pwr poo-poo we are currently in on the unrealistically low expectations of its fanz? Wally is to blame for all this mess?? :p

I can guarantee you one thing, they win every game they play for the rest of the season, pwr wont mean chit. ;)

My only question is, does Corkum recieve coach of the year ??

They knew that the first game of the season would be worth nine places in the pwr? I find that hard to believe. See I don't think teams really know what is going to happen and that is a big part of the problem. A lot of pwr depends on what teams you play do which you obviously have no control over.

This is partly true. How much a win "counts" depends a lot on how an opponent does, and what their conference does against other conferences. It's odd and it's not perfect.

Having said that, the people who don't like PWR usually like KRACH, and Maine's 15th in that too.

The Bears are in Hockey East....usually the league takes care of itself. Finish in the top 4, get to the Garden, have a winning record and you should be in good shape in the PWR. Take care of your own business and there's nothing to worry about.

Northeastern became the last TUC tonight, helping Maine's record against TUC's. We'll see how long they remain.

If Alaska wins, they knock Northeastern out of TUC status. If Michigan State comes back to tie or win, the Huskies remain in the top 25. As of this morning Maine is in the tournament...12th if MSU wins, 13th if it is a tie, 15th if Alaska wins.

This morning's bracketology has Maine playing Denver in...Albany.

Hmmm....Albany...

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Good game last night for da Bears. They are playing good hockey. A good effort last night, they limited their mistakes with only three penalties, althougth taking 2 in the last 4 minutes was not good. Offensively they continue to sound good, crisp passing, good positioning and opportunistic power play are good things to see. Darling is playing good right now, he is playing with confidence and Darling remaining healthy is a key for Maine. Defensively I like what I see, with the exception of the BC game recently and the Princeton game they have been pretty solid defensively.

Pretty happy overall, considering my expectations for the team at the start of the season, especially after the Union series. It is obvious that Tim has realized the need to listen to the input of his assistant coaches. We all pretty much understand and know why Guy left and why Grant decided to finally retire. Corkum has been a good addition and his input and imprint on the team are showing.

.

Jeez, when was the last time UNH ran a Maine goalie who was HOT and injured him so that he could not finish up the season?
Naah, couldn't happen tonight

and True Blue... you chat with the coaching staff (Sill/Czuba)... did they tell you that Tim is actually using input from his assistants? I mean one would guess that, but I am told it is still 100% Tim... and if that is the case, then Tim needs to be congratulated (even if it is not 100% Tim, we need to congratulate him... he is doing something that only BobF and Priceless thought he might do... as much as I love typing that) if maine beats UNH tonight, I think that even MaineFanIntheBayou needs to write a new letter to Kennedy

Nice first paragraph, completely useless. I said Darling remaining healthy is a key to the rest of the season for Maine. We all know that anyone can be injured at any time during game play or practice for that matter.

You sure you want to bring up Sill and Czuba again? You didn't have the ball sack to post at the time I am referring to, but you did find a way to send me an email through less than honest means on that subject.

I have enough insight to know that Corkum is having an influence on this team.

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

I'm beginning to think this team just might be something special. If they don't let success go to their heads and get complacent like past TIMMAY teams.

And notice how we haven't heard one peep from TIMMAY about how young and inexperienced the team is? Wonder why that is?

Agreed.

If TIMMAY can get Maine's recruiting house in order (seems like they may be turning the corner (still need to find a top shelf goaltender for 2011).....then I'm at least hopeful that the past few years before this can be forgotten and we can move forward with a competitive program. The only other thing that they need to do is get hoops out of Alfond. Then they can make the necessary improvements to help the program become more competitive (recruiting wise) with teams that have newer facilities and make for a more fan friendly experience.

GREAT game and GREAT win for the Black Bears tonight.

With the win Maine jumps to 9th in PWR.

UNH, on the other hand, drops to 16th.

Actually, Maine leads a 3-way tie for 8th, but that will change as more games become final.

Edit: It looks like Maine will be in 7th at the end of the night, opposed by UMD in a bracket with Denver and UHN. Either in St. Paul or Albany.
