The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

LTsatchmo, you reference SNY and the article references SNY, but neither identifies exactly what SNY is (nor for which it stands)... clue me in, please.

SportsNet New York is an American regional sports network that is owned by Sterling Entertainment Enterprises, LLC, itself a joint venture between the New York Mets, Charter Communications through its acquisition of Time Warner Cable in May 2016 and Comcast, through its NBC Sports Group subsidiary.

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

If my new hypothesis about the HEA schedule is true:

UVM and Merrimack will play each other three times.
UVM will play either UCONN or UNH three times, depending on who finishes ninth.
The remaining eight teams will determine by lot who plays UVM, Merrimack, and the 9th place finisher thrice.
From those who do not play Merrimack thrice, four will be chosen to play the 8th place finisher between UCONN and UNH.

BC and Providence will play each other three times.
Northeastern will play one of the aforementioned two teams three times.
The remaining eight teams will determine by lot who plays BC, NE, and Prov. thrice.
Fourth is too close to call, currently between BU and UMA; four of whomever does not play Northeastern thrice will be chosen.

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

HEA standings are as follows:

1 Northeastern 64
2 Providence 61
3 Boston Coll 59
4 Mass Amherst 56
5 Boston Univ 55
6 Mass Lowell 51
7 Maine 49
8 Connecticut 39
9 New Hampshire 37
10 Vermont 31
11 Merrimack 26

I know not if there are bonus points for playoffs.

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

FlagDUDE, I requested access to your "ENTER INFO HERE" sheet to update the AHA table.

A few interesting findings, looking from the 2014-2015 season until this season.
-AIC has hosted Sacred Heart for 2 games for 4 seasons in a row, with this current season being the first time AIC has played AT SHU since 2014 (they played 4 games this year).
-Bentley and Mercyhurst played 4 games in 2014-2015 and 2015-2016, but only twice per season since. All 6 of those games have been at Bentley.
-Bentley last visited Niagara in 2014-2015, with 4 seasons of Niagara visiting Bentley for 2.
-In the 5 seasons, Bentley has either played 4 games against Robert Morris (2 seasons), or has hosted RMU. They have not had a year with only 2 meetings @ Bentley.
-RIT and Army have only played 2 times per season (@ Army, @ RIT, @ Army, @ RIT, @ Army). Meanwhile, RIT has played Robert Morris 18 times (4 games, 2 @ RMU, 4, 4, 4)
-Canisius hosted RMU for 2 in 2014-2015. They played 4 times in 2015-2016. The last 3 seasons have been 2 games each, all at Canisius.

Lots of things that don't seem even or fair...

Of course, I could have made a mistake somewhere, so let me know if you notice anything!

That does seem a bit odd, and although it could certainly be by chance, there has to be something else going on that would sort of "stack the deck". I know you've been focusing on the things that seem unfair; what about anything that seems fair? For example, you did not mention USAFA or CHC in your evidence, and given the amount of money required to fly to Colorado, I would think that'd be a "fair" one; perhaps to look there?

AHA has 11 teams and 28 conference games. This means four teams you play four times, three teams home only, and three teams away only; assuming no wacky home/home situations like some of the eastern teams do. If they're truly drawn by lot, then it would make sense that some teams be stuck with the same arrangement for a number of years because they were drawn last.

Bentley A H A/H A H
Canisius A/H A/H H A/H A/H
Holy Cross A A/H A A H
Mercyhurst H A A H A/H
Niagara A/H A/H H A/H H
RIT H H A/H A/H A

Sacred Heart A A A/H A/H A

More Unfair: Niagara and Canisius are the only two teams that have flown to Air Force every season.

Edit: I have not looked into any standings-based approaches like you are for Hockey East

Only reason I looked into anything about standings for HEA is because that's what they said they're using. Still a bit of randomness to it, but you can sort of tell there's an algorithm there. Obviously with probability we've always worked upon a theory of something along the lines of regression to the mean in the long term, but we both know, in practical application, it means jack squat.

Out of curiosity, while we're on the subject of probability, did you ever have Prof. Halavin?

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

I still think it is a 10 year cycle.
4 years playing a team 4 times
3 years home only
3 years away only

EDIT, Bentley being at Niagara ruins this. Let me fall back on 4 years of each concept. Then I got a chance of saving face ;)

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

From Chip Malafronte New Haven Register who interviewed Allain. Sorry no dates. "Yale opens next season with a scrimmage at Princeton on Oct. 26, with the ECAC opener the following weekend. Nonleague games are at Vermont and New Hampshire, with a neutral site game with Harvard at Madison Square Garden on Jan. 11. Maine and UMass visit Ingalls Rink. There’s also a two-day all-Connecticut tournament at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport with Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac and UConn in late January."

Souza essentially rattled off next year's UNH non-conference schedule at his year end presser - without dates, aside from stating they would open in Oxford. This is the order in which he mentioned them (not sure of that is significant or just his recollection)...

@ Miami
@ Miami
@ Army
Michigan
Michigan
@ Friendship Four Game 2 (Colgate/Princeton - NC)
@ Bentley
Brown
Dartmouth

He did not mention Yale - but that would make a lot of sense and ten non-conference games...

The only thing I find odd is that Yale visited UNH last year?

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

A number of you have requested access to the composite spreadsheet, and have subsequently not been accepted. You have the right to know why.

A few weeks prior, several persons made a decision to make clear that I am not welcome on this forum. I will not go into details out of respect to the wishes of the owners, only to say that what I experienced was contradictory to the expectations of higher learning, understanding, and attitudes that come with a higher education. As such, I have decided to suspend the services I volunteer to the benefit of those enjoying this forum, including but not limited to the compilation of college hockey schedules.

I apologize to those that feel inconvenienced as a result of this decision. I may choose to continue this work elsewhere, and if I do so, may fate have it so you are able to seek what is provided.

Re: The 2019-20 Schedules Thread

I think you have provided a great service and hope you reconsider
Made it easier to set fall dates with your updated schedule
Only place where this was available- cant imagine anyone objecting

Totally agree, but if Facebook and politics has taught me anything: People will get emotional(annoyed???) at practically anything, and feel totally validated by their logic. I have to imagine someone has issues with his use of "Complete schedules" While I look at discussions of "complete schedules" and find myself barely flinching, some people get very worked up over what is and what is not a complete schedule.
