No matter when they play these games, there is going to be a chunk of people who can't make it and they're going to be upset. Move this two weeks and plenty of people who planned on going won't be able to. (Too bad. The world doesn't revolve around those people any more or less than it revolves around you.)
Ultimately the school and the Garden need to make the decision that's best for the parties involved and there's nothing that's going to please everyone.
I hope they play as planned, but it seems to me like they are going to have to change their minds based on how this storm is worsening. Not because the game would be played in a poor atmosphere, but because of the public safety issue. But we'll see what happens. If it's possible to safely get the teams to and from the game they would probably rather have it in front of an empty house this one time than have to deal with the logistical gymnastics of rescheduling.

I live just outside of Washington, DC (home of the brave), where it was in the 50s today and got to annoy the Ravens fans by wearing my brand new Pats championship tee shirt. So the only way the Boston weather will affect me is if the thing gets cancelled and I can't go to local watch party, which is always tons of fun. I also tend to be hypercritical of people who get all wussy every time the weather isn't ideal.
But when you're talking two feet of snow on top of what you already have, public safety, including that of the players and fans, has to trump any concerns about the consequences of the game not being paid. Hey, if some student gets killed or seriously injured going to or coming from the Garden, it won't take long for the tort lawyers to line up at the front door of the affected institution(s). So if it proves feasible to play the game without imposing unacceptable risk on anyone, so be it. If not, the proper authorities need to do what they need to do.

Why does that matter? Did the coaches become responsible for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts? Didn't you just say that the ability of the fans to attend was "irrelevant?" Is Madigan going to apologize to the families of people who get injured, stranded or worse attempting to get to the game? Of course the coaches want to play the game. They have a singular focus and concern. They're not responsible for the big picture.

If the people who are in charge of the health and safety of the Commonwealth - the Governor and MEMA - felt like any travel was hazardous and irresponsible, they have the right and responsibility to institute a travel ban. They haven't done that, so it's up to individual people to make their own safety choices based on common sense. If you don't think you can safely make it, don't go. Nobody would be making anyone do anything.
That said, Twitter is now suggesting that the thing has been postponed. Which is probably the right decision.

I hesitate to think there are thousands of people coming to this game from the Fitchburg area, or an equal distance. Especially considering 50-75% of the balcony seats are sold to people a train ride away.

Yup...you just confirmed what I said a few minutes ago. Anyone outside of Boston proper is irrelevant. Forty-five miles is a LONG way away! That's really why I was so upset...I would have had to bring a sleeping bag and three days worth of food to make the LONG sojourn into the big city.
Maybe you never got the memo that the Beanpot, more than any other event, has a huge alumni participation. People go to this event that don't go to any other game all year. So, actually, yes, there are a LOT of people from outside 128 that attend this game. It's a big world out there. Maybe you should come out of your bunker and take a look.

No, I got the memo. I still stand by my statement that the majority of people attending the game are not driving in from 45 miles away. In fact, a good number may have come from farther, bought plane/train fare which is now useless.
