THE 2015 BEANPOT.. ain't no deflate-gate

Re: THE 2015 BEANPOT.. ain't no deflate-gate

I keep checking with players, even with parking bans in effect, public transportation limited, coaches have told players games will not be postponed. Once the snow starts and conditions become very bad, maybe something will change for the players safety sake. Monday it took some teams almost an hour to get there. Time will tell.

I suspect it might actually be easier since it seems many people are going to be heeding the warnings and not going into work. A lot of the problem on Tuesday was that the city hadn't plowed out from the storm, but everyone went to work and it was a giant cluster**** that led to gridlock and T disasters. Hopefully, there'll be many, many fewer cars on the road tomorrow.

I also think everyone's in a bit of a holding pattern to see whether the governor announces a travel ban for tomorrow. If that's the case, then that decides it for everyone.

He's the best.

agreed, local, thorough & doesn't add the hysteria

i'll be there.

while i'm not the biggest fan of the mayor kudos to him saying we got it wrong last week & putting a parking ban in effect and actually towing people (we'll see if they do this) so they can fully plow

best news of the weekend. Game on, let's go.

"Best news" for who? Some forecasts are saying two FEET in Boston. I just got in from two hours of removing last night's and this morning's snow (5 inches). About 45 minutes ago it started snowing like crazy. Unless you

A) Don't have a job
B) Are a student
C) Can use a vacation day
D) Live in the city and can walk or take the T (and that's doubtful as well)

I don't see how this is "good." Is it "good" that the Garden will be 3/4 empty? A cynic could say, "Well, the tickets are already sold so what difference does it make?" But I'm sure they would like the concessions revenue from a big crowd. But beyond all that, there's no chance that someone like me, who goes to fewer games because of my work schedule as it is, and would like to go and support my team, can possibly go. I can't even get to work tomorrow, so I'll have to work from home. That means I will be spending another three hours tomorrow night just trying to get everything cleared so I can get out of my driveway and MAYBE get to work by Tuesday. I don't have any time to even think about getting to a game.

Besides, if they declare another snow emergency and impose a travel ban, I don't care what some source at the "school" says...his opinion will be trumped by those who have greater authority. I just it's too precarious at this point. It's not like this is an isolated event. We have been in a two-week pattern of almost continuous storms, one after another, and almost all of them major.

I don't see how they play this game tomorrow...

Baker just said, as I posted below, there is no travel ban and the T is running. Whether or not fans can make the game is very irrelevant to the decision making. Postponing these games would significantly harm all four teams.

Re: THE 2015 BEANPOT.. ain't no deflate-gate

How do you know? Nothing has happened yet. Take a look at the radar and how two areas (one north near Greenfield and one south in Connecticut) have just merged and are "blowing up" into a big storm. It's easy to say that until it happens. Besides, the headlines on the Channel 5 website now say "'Nor'easter closes schools, limits MBTA: up to two feet of snow."

I don't know you, so I am assuming you can get to the game easily. So if we're "irrelevant," so be it. Typical Boston attitude. Anyone 10 miles or more outside the city doesn't count. That's why they call it "The Hub." Joke... We'll see how "relevant" it is if someone gets stranded or killed...

I'm included in the fans that I'm talking about. It'd be anything but "easy" for me to get to the game tomorrow, never mind work that I'll likely have to go in for. Not sure what you're paying attention to, but Charlie Baker just held a press conference 45 minutes ago and said there is not a travel ban and that the MBTA will be running a limited schedule.

Re: THE 2015 BEANPOT.. ain't no deflate-gate

Okay there is literally no reason for anyone to get butthurt over what happens tomorrow. Whoever is in charge of whether the Beanpot is on or postponed is going to make what they think is the best decision, and everyone else can be sad or relieved as they please.

No sense in arguing over something you have zero control over.
It WOULD be pretty disappointing to postpone the Beanpot, in my opinion, because it likely wouldn't happen for two weeks. That would kinda kill some of the hype and the teams would be going into the games after playing a full weekend of hockey right before. That's no good for anyone. But alas, if the weather gets bad enough that it becomes a safety risk, well the right decision will be made.

Until then, get hyped! It's almost BEANPOT MONDAY!

So what? NOTHING HAS HAPPENED YET!!! So you're telling me if we get 25 feet of snow he can't change his mind because he "said" there wasn't going to be a travel ban? And even if there isn't, that automatically means they're going to play? Whatever...we'll just wait and see what happens. But I won't even be able to watch because I'll be outside removing snow. And I still can't get over the "irrelevant" remark. Ever been to a consolation game? Do you like that atmosphere? Two teams playing in front of family and friends. 500 people in an 18,000 seat arena? I wonder how much of a tradition the Beanpot would be if they did THAT very often?

Big whoop...I'll probably get around to watching on my DVR by Wednesday...

Sometimes in life you can make things easier by having a positive attitude. Even when everything sucks and nothing is going your way.
It's much less unpleasant that way.

Re: THE 2015 BEANPOT.. ain't no deflate-gate

He didn't impose a statewide travel ban because the storm is not going to be ridiculously bad across the entire state, like the blizzard was. And a limited T? They may as well shut down. They're doing a limited T so people who work in hospitals, etc. can get to work. I'm with chickod here. I don't see how they play this when a) they're getting more snow than they got last week and b) the worst part of the storm will be late Monday into Monday evening. I just got the call my office is closed tomorrow.

I think they want to postpone but need agreement from everyone and they don't have it.

You've had a bad day, haven't you?

I cannot see how any of the four coaches want to postpone this.
