The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

I don't know, I think Maine will have a shot against MichSt.

It was a joke pertaining to last year's Icebreaker tournament. The media I'm sure was so looking forward to that championship game between Notre Dame and the UMTC/UMD winner. I still remember the "weakest 4th team in GLI history" comment from 2009.

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

Can anyone reply when they or their team play BC so I can map out my fall schedule ? I have RIT around Turkey Day weekend and Wisconsin in Oct.

Any other games out there ?

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

MSU is going to Boston mid-November. Five weeks before I'll be there, unfortunately. Might be able to catch them at Northeastern, though.

Well, perhaps you should open up the spreadsheet, and you can see when to consider a trip to Troy. ;)

Re: The 2015-16 Schedules Thread

I think for Bemidji, you won't see them book a 37th or 38th game. Doing so burns one of your bye weeks/rest periods, which are important. If I remember correctly, two or three years ago, BSU had a bye the first weekend and then played straight through to Christmas. Needless to say, the injury bug hit as the neared the end of December and break couldn't come soon enough.

Also, doesn't the NCAA have a limit on the number of practice hours during the season? Scheduling another weekend spreads those hours thinner throughout the year.

Most of the WCHA teams will not schedule 38 games even if they are eligible. If you notice most that have games available to schedule are other WCHA teams. And Big Ten and about half the NCHC has no desire to make an even swap of home games, preferring 2 for 1 deals or simply just a one time deal at their rink. So to play the extra two games would deprive the team of a needed bye week and cost money in most cases. Scheduling AHA or ECAC games would result in another flight, and with all WCHA already having two flights to Alaska in those seasons that would be 38 games, it just doesn't make sense.

bingo. I wish BG hadn't scheduled 38 next year, even though there are no vile 2-for-1 deals involved. grueling. bye week, good!

and FlagDUDE08, while we appreciate and enjoy your efforts with scheduling...there has to be a less misleading way than "short 2 games (with a frowny face)". 36 is a full and good schedule (still more than other conferences), not at all frowny.
at least indicate that the so-called "short 2 games" actually means 36.

In countless years, some AHC teams (and sometimes hockey east teams) are not able to even get to 34 games. As much as I understand that having 40 games is excessive by NCAA standards, who's available to fill the Atlantic schedules?

I do give an exception to the Ivy League in determining if the schedule is short because, by rule, they are only allowed to play 29 games. The Ivy League does not have a limit on exhibition games (or "scrimmages" as they notate it), aside from the NCAA's 34 game limit, so you may see them go over 29.

Belfast and then Vermont together? When did Brown and Colgate decide to be travel partners?

I remember when BU played UNH on 19 Oct 1990 at Walter Brown in a scrimmage that was 2 25-minute periods. Back then BU also didn't charge admission for exhibition games. I believe that season a number of other Hockey East teams also played each other in exhibition scrimmages. Of course, the NCAA changed the rules so DI teams can no longer play each other in exhibitions that don't count against the 34-game limit back around 1998 (after BU played Minnesota in the 1996 HOF game and MSU and Clarkson in the 1997 Ice Breaker and Coach Parker got the other coaches to consider them exhibition games. Of course, those games are now exempt from the 34-game limit).

The games may be exempt now, but they still count towards tournament consideration, whereas I would assume (correct me if I'm wrong) that the games you mentioned did not do so.
