Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

let's hope payton and the other throwing teams aren't scheduled weeks 1-4!!

Not to worried about the first 4 weeks. maybe Belichek can run out on the field and tackle guys when they run down the sideline

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

I haven't seen an updated figure, but after the Revis signing the Pats had about 12M in cap space left. Browner cost $3M, they need about $3M for the draft picks. I don't know how much Edelman and LaFell cost but even if it takes up the remaining 6M there's really no other free agents out there to sign.

So, given those #'s I don't see the point of cutting Wilfork unless there's someone better out there to replace him. I don't want that cap space to go to 3 guys off the scrap heap, or to go back to Kraft to buy more jewelry for his 20 year old girlfriend. The front 7 is looking pretty good, and the secondary looks great.

Use the draft to beef up the O-line (they need a center first and foremost) as well as the 2nd TE position and the team should be good to go.

Wilfork is probably close to 400 pounds, into his 30's AND coming off an Achilles' injury ... playing nose tackle?

How is he gonna generate any physical leverage? Sad to say, but he'll be out of the league within a year.

Not a fan of the Patriots or BB, but this is 100% the right decision, and you'll be better off for it ...

You just answered your own question Chuck! He generates it by falling forwards! :D

I'll say again if there's a better play to be had for the dollars he's getting then sure. However, if they're cutting him just for the sake of saving money that they won't then reallocate (really, unless there's some movement on the Jared Allen front who else is out there?) I'm not in favor of that. I also don't want a nose tackle by committee like we had after he went down last year.

Personally I think Wilfork and Revis will have great years next year because they're both essentually in contract years and looking at their last big payday.

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Nose tackle is basically there to take up space, and not be moved. 400 pounds accomplishes that.

It takes more than that, rufus. And coming off the Achilles' injury, Wilfork is unlikely to be able to provide it.

Glad I didn't go to the game. It was such an awful game to watch and not worth the money and effort to go. They won but they looked awful on offense and looked out of sync still and they need to change things around. The pace was brutal and the play calling awful by whoever is OC, McDaniels ?? The clock management and sense of urgency not there in that last drive before the 1st half and only got a FG.

Saw this on the tweeter machine:

Every single point in this game was scored by a "-kowski."

If the first 3 games are any indication Brady should heed his own words, he sucks, so retire. I know the line isn't helping but even when he has time the throws are all over the place.

I think if McDaniels is the OC calling the plays, he is at fault too, then BB for not making changes or adjustments. The only time he scrambled and not took a sack was at the end of the game and actually completed the pass. He needs to do this more and just do the slide if he will be tackled to avoid injury.

Why is Edelman the only receiver he trusts and can get any separation? Either that T. Brady is off the mark on his throws. He can't seem to hit the long passes anymore with any accuracy.

IMO, if he went with a no huddle, they usually seem to be more in sync and rhythm and move the ball better. It gives the D no time to substitute and gets the D gassed. They don't have to go no huddle all the time, but at times they should when the offense is sucking badly. The raiders should have won today and were helped by that penalty.

Right now, it seems LaFell, Amendola, Gronk, and everyone else can't get open enough and trading Mankins is an excuse for Brady not to have enough time or not playing well.

BTW, Walrus, I fell asleep during the Maine / BC football game. I was hoping to see more BC passing to work on the air game but they chewed up the ground again with over 400 yards.
