Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Once again, no Gronk, No Amendola, Pats D will have to be huge to win against Atlanta

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

He can catch; see last week. :)
He didn't get the nickname Dropkins for no reason:). he looked good last week so hopefully he has turned the corner. In all fairness Brady hasn't looked that good in any game

Dropkins, lol. I have hopes the last game, he finally got it through his head.

Hey guys, what is the best msg board/chat room for Patriots games, now that ESPN has gone Facebook? PM me if you don't want to post the link here. Thanks

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

I think NE got away with PI on that last ATL offensive play. But wow! What a finish!

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Sounds like Wilfork is done for the year, Achilles tendon, that really hurts

I think the NFL will apply some justice that was lacking when #17 was injured in the end zone. They can't do anything about the missed PI but how was the second guy not flagged for targeting a defenseless receiver in the head?

The refs have been so neurotic about that, it seemed that was a pretty good example and the flag should have been thrown.

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Really happy with the Pats right now beyond the obvious injury concern with Wilfork. Since he wasn't looking like himself this year so far, I'm wondering if he was fighting this from Day 1 and it finally gave way on him.

Anyway, I give the D a lot of credit. I don't blame them for giving up points when the onside kick got fumbled, but they did their job and held it to a field goal. Then they held at the end of the game. Atlanta despite their record has a d@ mn good offense. Really one of the best in the league. Not a lot of teams can trot out three receiving weapons (including the TE) like they can. Pats have historically been atrocious against the pass. Big difference this year is Talib. He's now the most important guy on D and having the secondary not getting torched regularly by their opponents best receiver is having an impact all over the field. I feel a lot better about this team now than I did last week, and that's before Gronk, etc get back.

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Never seen double coverage like the Pats put on Gonzalez in the last series. A linebacker on each shoulder, and don't even let him get off the line. Almost looked like two offensive linemen double teaming a pass rusher. Of course that means that someone has to cover a wide receiver one on one, and thank goodness they've got someone who can do that.

I agree, the novelty was noted, I don't think I've ever seen that tactic and it might be that he is the only guy in the league you'd do that against but it was worth it...nobody could cover him it seemed. Or, should I say, even when they covered him he still made huge plays. So, keep him within 5 yards of the LOS and you can do as you please. That seemed to disrupt the timing of plays and the QB progression...without that safety blanket they only had Julio Jones and White!!

Atlanta is one of the better pass catching teams, especially on really good coverage... a few reminded me of some of the Giants' catches in games that will not be mentioned.

Gronk?

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

I hadn't seen it done before on him but we might now. BB was the first guy I ever saw do the "walk around" defense years ago agains Bledsoe and the Bills...now you see lots of teams with DL standing up and milling around to confuse OL and QB's. As good as Gronkowski is, I don't think he is the pass catcher Gonzalez is...but it has been a while since I've seen Gronk play!! I doubt they keep it as a career stat but I wonder how many drops Tony has had in his career.

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

Looks like the Pats will be outscored by the Red Sox (either game).

Re: The 2013 New England Patriots

A porous OL and all receivers that drop more than catch. Dropkins, Dropson, Amendroppa, Dropman. It does not look like a good year, barring any major additions. For all that, there were a few times where they should have scored the tying TD but odd things happened. The D looks all right, although losing Vince hurts like hell.

Either that, or the Bungles are a **** good team. They did come to play today.

Probably will be 4-2 with Miami next week, after the game with the Saints.

Instead of Danny Stopdropandrolla trying to summersault into the end zone, he should have just stuck the ball out.

Second, the Pats pulled a 'Notre Dame', get the ball in decent field position and immediately try a low percentage long pass that leaves you in 2nd and long.

Now, ND would have thrown a 'Tony Romo'...that is a pick six at the worst time. (See also: Schaub, Matt) but I digress...when you haven't scored a TD all day the idea that you'd suddenly connect on a 40 pass is not a high percentage thought.
